In the years since Selma Blair<\/strong><\/a> found out she had multiple sclerosis<\/a>, the actress has been candid about navigating her new normal.<\/p>\n The Michigan native rose to fame starring in hit movies, including\u00a0Cruel Intentions<\/a>, Legally Blonde<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0After<\/i>. Amid her notable Hollywood career, she announced in October 2018 that she had been diagnosed with MS<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI was in this wardrobe fitting two days ago. And I am in the deepest gratitude. So profound, it is, I have decided to share,\u201d Blair\u00a0wrote in an October 2018 Instagram post<\/a> at the time. \u201cThe brilliant costumer\u00a0#Allisaswanson\u00a0not only designs the pieces\u00a0#harperglass\u00a0will wear on this new\u00a0#Netflix\u00a0show, but she carefully gets my legs in my pants, pulls my tops over my head, buttons my coats and offers her shoulder to steady myself. I have\u00a0#multiplesclerosis.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued at the time: \u201cI am in an exacerbation. By the grace of the lord, and will power and the understanding producers at Netflix, I have a job. A wonderful job. I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps<\/a>. But we are doing it. And I laugh and I don\u2019t know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best.\u201d<\/p>\n Through the years, Blair \u2014 who shares son\u00a0Arthur<\/a>\u00a0with ex\u00a0Jason Bleick<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 has been candid about her health challenges<\/a>, even starring in a documentary about her diagnosis,\u00a0Introducing, Selma Blair<\/i>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have a long time to be dead and I spent so long trying to kill myself, or numb myself, or check out \u2014 or figure out how to be alive by being half dead,\u201d the\u00a0American Crime Story<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>alum said in the documentary, which premiered in March 2021. \u201cAnd now I just want to help other people feel better.\u201d<\/p>\n As Blair navigated her MS battle, she decided to sign up for\u00a0Dancing With the Stars\u00a0<\/i>season 31<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cOnce I actually stood with Sasha [Farber<\/strong><\/a>, my\u00a0DWTS<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>partner] and really realized, like, \u2018Oh, he can help me in general,\u2019\u201d she told\u00a0Us Weekly\u00a0<\/i>in September 2022 ahead of the Disney+ premiere<\/a>. \u201c[I\u2019m] so excited for camaraderie, for support [from] people. I did not realize how much I missed that and \u2026 there were terror and nerves [because] I don\u2019t have experience dancing, like, with steps, I can pose like a dancer for maybe two seconds.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cOnce I decided [to join the show] and convinced my team that I could do this [and] that it wasn\u2019t gonna be too dangerous for me that I could do this [because] we do these things we wanna find joy in and then I\u2019m all in.\u201d<\/p>\n
