{"id":50504,"date":"2023-11-01T19:44:17","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T19:44:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/01\/the-head-of-hbo-allegedly-asked-staffers-to-fight-critics-on-twitter\/"},"modified":"2023-11-01T19:44:17","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T19:44:17","slug":"the-head-of-hbo-allegedly-asked-staffers-to-fight-critics-on-twitter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/01\/the-head-of-hbo-allegedly-asked-staffers-to-fight-critics-on-twitter\/","title":{"rendered":"The Head of HBO Allegedly Asked Staffers to Fight Critics on Twitter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"has-dropcap\">The head honchos at HBO are apparently reading your tweets, and they are <em>not<\/em> happy about them. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv-movies\/tv-movie-features\/hbo-casey-bloys-secret-twitter-trolls-tv-critics-leaked-texts-lawsuit-the-idol-1234867722\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to a report from <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> a new wrongful termination lawsuit filed against HBO alleges that HBO CEO <strong>Casey Bloys<\/strong> instructed staffers to make secret social media accounts in order to clap back at critics of the premium cable network. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Per <em>Rolling Stone,<\/em> Bloys sent multiple texts asking HBO staffers to target critics\u2014both professional writers and anonymous Deadline commenters. Some of the texts are included in material being compiled for a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by former HBO staffer <strong>Sully Temori<\/strong> against HBO, HBO senior vice president of drama programming <strong>Kathleen McCaffrey,<\/strong> HBO head of drama <strong>Francesca Orsi,<\/strong> <em>The Idol<\/em>\u2019s <strong>Abel \u201cThe Weeknd\u201d Tesfaye,<\/strong> and two other producers for <em>The Idol.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">According to the complaint, the plaintiff began working at HBO in 2015 as a temp and became an executive assistant in 2017. He worked on <em>The Idol<\/em> in August 2021 and was laid off in October 2021, the lawsuit says. <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> reports that Temori\u2019s suit alleges that he was \u201charassed and faced retaliation and discrimination after disclosing a mental health diagnosis to his bosses.\u201d According to <em>Rolling Stone,<\/em> lawyers representing HBO have requested that a judge dismiss Temori\u2019s suit, with HBO denying \u201ceach and every allegation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Temori\u2019s complaint claims that McCaffrey asked him to create fake accounts in 2020. Per texts being prepared for the complaint and reviewed by <em>Rolling Stone,<\/em> McCaffrey said that Bloys was \u201cobsessed with Twitter,\u201d and \u201calways wants to pick a fight on Twitter.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cHe always texts me asking me to find friends to reply,\u201d reads one of the messages from McCaffrey, according to <em>Rolling Stone.<\/em> \u201cIs there a way to create a dummy account that can\u2019t be traced to us to do his bidding?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Per the report, the lawsuit also contains multiple text exchanges displaying what Temori\u2019s attorney, <strong>Michael Martinez,<\/strong> calls the \u201cvery petty\u201d culture at HBO. \u201cThey joke about people outside of HBO, they joke about people within HBO,\u201d Martinez told <em>Rolling Stone.<\/em> \u201cYou suffer through some bullying until you can\u2019t suffer anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">As <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> reports, in 2020, when Bloys was HBO\u2019s president of original programming, he allegedly became upset when Vulture television critic <strong>Kathryn VanArendonk<\/strong> tweeted about HBO\u2019s <em>Perry Mason,<\/em> then in its first season. Bloys then reportedly ordered some staffers to \u201cgo on a mission\u201d and fire back at VanArendonk. According to text messages reviewed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/rolling-stone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> Bloys texted VanArendonk\u2019s tweet to McCaffrey with an idea for a rebuttal. \u201cMaybe a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> user should tweet that that\u2019s a pretty blithe response to what soldiers legitimately go through on [the] battlefield,\u201d read Bloys\u2019s text. \u201cDo you have a secret handle? Couldn\u2019t we say especially given that it\u2019s D-Day to dismiss a soldier\u2019s experience like that seems pretty disrespectful\u2026this must be answered!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Bloys reportedly went on to text McCaffrey that they needed to find a \u201cmole\u201d at \u201carms length\u201d from HBO\u2019s executive team who was ready and willing to take on VanArendonk. <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> reported that the text exchange between Bloys and McCaffrey is one of six exchanges discussing firing back at Twitter critics that occurred between June 2020 and April 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/2023\/11\/the-head-of-hbo-allegedly-asked-staffers-to-fight-critics-on-twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The head honchos at HBO are apparently reading your tweets, and they are not happy about them.
