Worth the wait. From Teen Wolf<\/em><\/a>\u2018s Stiles and Lydia to Stranger Things<\/em><\/a>\u2018 Joyce and Hopper, some TV shows introduced couples that took quite some time<\/a> to finally get together.<\/p>\n The hit MTV series, which aired from 2011 to 2017, focused on a high school student who became a teenage werewolf after he was bitten<\/a> by an alpha. Scott (Tyler Posey<\/strong><\/a>) ultimately had to balance the issues in his life with threats against his hometown.<\/a><\/p>\n While the lead character quickly found love<\/a> with Allison (Crystal Reed<\/strong><\/a>), viewers couldn\u2019t help but notice the subtle chemistry between Scott\u2019s best friend Stiles (Dylan O\u2019Brien<\/strong><\/a>) and Lydia (Holland Roden<\/strong><\/a>). The pair \u2014 who were known as Stydia \u2014 got together in the series finale but things took a turn when Teen Wolf<\/em> was revived.<\/a><\/p>\n Fans were surprised when O\u2019Brien ultimately chose not to appear in Paramount+\u2019s Teen Wolf<\/em> movie<\/a>. Ahead of the project\u2019s debut, Roden discussed how the film worked around Stiles\u2019 obvious absence<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s sort of like when you have 11 kids and one\u2019s missing,\u201d the actress exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in January 2023. \u201cLike, of course, you know that they\u2019re missing. We\u2019re sad they\u2019re not there, but it\u2019s nice that we got as many people together as we could.\u201d<\/p>\n In the movie, Lydia revealed that she broke up with Stiles because she was having dreams<\/a> about him dying in a car accident. The banshee ended their relationship in the hopes that it would protect<\/a> her boyfriend.<\/p>\n According to showrunner Jeff Davis<\/strong>, the surprising split wasn\u2019t solely inspired by O\u2019Brien\u2019s absence.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cYou can leave it at the excuse that, oh, Stiles is off just doing something else while the movie happened. But I didn\u2019t want to leave it at that,\u201d he told TV Insider<\/em> that same month. \u201cI wanted to still be able to tell an emotional story and the idea that Lydia had a premonition and she couldn\u2019t shake it and that was the reason she broke up with him was to save him, was to keep him alive, felt like [a] great heroic sacrifice in a way.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Stranger Things<\/em><\/a> used supernatural elements to initially keep Joyce (Winona Ryder<\/strong><\/a>) and Hopper (David Harbour<\/strong><\/a>) apart. The duo faced many ups and downs before they found the right time to explore their feelings in season 4 of the hit Netflix series.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s something that we\u2019ve mapped out, how much they want to show is really up to them. Winona and I postulate a bunch of stuff, we have a bunch of theories. Some of them are very wild, and some of them are very tame,\u201d Harbour told Variety<\/em> in May 2022, shortly after the first installment of season 4 premiered. \u201cIn general, they had a time in high school \u2014 they knew each other when they were super innocent, and they had all this potential, both of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
