Max has added a tribute to Friends<\/em><\/a> star Matthew Perry<\/a> following his sudden death.<\/p>\n

Perry brought the role of Chandler Bing to life on Friends<\/em><\/a> from 1994 to 2004. The sitcom focused on a group of friends in their 30s as they navigated life in New York City. Friends\u2019 successful run on NBC skyrocketed Perry, Jennifer Aniston<\/strong><\/a> (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox<\/strong><\/a> (Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow<\/strong><\/a> (Phoebe Buffay), Matt LeBlanc<\/strong><\/a> (Joey Tribbiani) and David Schwimmer<\/strong><\/a> (Ross Geller) to fame.<\/p>\n

Perry later opened up about feeling unprepared for life in the spotlight.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen [fame] happens, it\u2019s kind of like Disneyland for a while. For me it lasted about eight months, this feeling of \u2018I\u2019ve made it, I\u2019m thrilled, there\u2019s no problem in the world.\u2019 And then you realize that it doesn\u2019t accomplish anything, it\u2019s certainly not filling any holes in your life,\u201d he told The New York Times<\/em> in 2002, while discussing his journey to sobriety. \u201cI didn\u2019t get sober because I felt like it. I got sober because I was worried I was going to die the next day.\u201d<\/p>\n

While filming Friends<\/em>, Perry developed an addiction to Vicodin after a Jet Ski accident in 1997. That eventually led to alcohol abuse<\/a>, which affected Perry\u2019s performance on set and led to him being hospitalized with pancreatitis in 2000.<\/p>\n

The actor recalled going through detox in between seasons 6 and 7<\/a> of Friends<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can track the trajectory of my addiction if you gauge my weight from season to season \u2014 when I\u2019m carrying weight, it\u2019s alcohol; when I\u2019m skinny, it\u2019s pills. When I have a goatee, it\u2019s lots of pills,\u201d he wrote in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers & The Big Terrible Thing<\/em>. \u201cCompare \u2026 how I look between the final episode of season six and the first of season seven \u2014 the Chandler-Monica proposal episodes. I\u2019m wearing the same clothes in the final episode of six and the first of seven [it\u2019s supposed to be the same night], but I must have lost fifty pounds in the off-season.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMatthew Perry openly battled addiction and other health issues while starring on Friends\u00a0and his costars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer were by his side every step of the way, showing their support both in public and in private. The six actors appeared on the NBC sitcom for 10 seasons [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Perry made multiple attempts to get sober and ultimately entered recovery<\/a> before Max\u2019s Friends<\/em> reunion in 2021. During the special, Perry opened up about being really hard on himself while filming Chandler\u2019s scenes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt like I was gonna die if they didn\u2019t laugh. It\u2019s not healthy for sure, but I would sometimes say a line and they wouldn\u2019t laugh, and I would sweat and go into convulsions,\u201d he said. \u201cIf I didn\u2019t get the laugh I was supposed to get, I would freak out. I felt like that every single night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perry died from an apparent drowning at age 54<\/a> on Saturday, October 28. Police responded to a call of someone in cardiac arrest at a Los Angeles home, where they reportedly found Perry unconscious in a hot tub. The authorities are still investigating Perry\u2019s death even though there was no sign of foul play.<\/a><\/p>\n
