The late Matthew Perry<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Friends<\/em><\/a>\u00a0character, Chandler Bing, not only knew how to cut through any situation with a well-timed joke, but he also had a lot of heart.<\/p>\n

Perry \u2014 who died at age 54<\/a> on Saturday, October 28, after an apparent drowning at his home in Los Angeles \u2014 starred as the funny one of the bunch from 1994 to 2004. He shared the screen with Jennifer Aniston<\/strong><\/a> (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox<\/strong><\/a> (Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow<\/strong><\/a> (Phoebe Buffay), Matt LeBlanc<\/strong><\/a> (Joey Tribbiani) and David Schwimmer<\/strong><\/a> (Ross Geller) during the show\u2019s highly successful 10 seasons on NBC.<\/p>\n

Whether Chandler was making up silly names for his magazine subscriptions or confessing his feelings for future wife Monica, he was always good for a laugh and a heartwarming moment.<\/p>\n

The actor revealed during a March 2017 appearance on Good Morning America<\/em><\/a> that his favorite one-liner<\/a> from his time on the sitcom was from the season 2 episode \u201cThe One With Ross\u2019 New Girlfriend.\u201d Chandler tells Joey, \u201cYou have to stop the Q-tip when there\u2019s resistance!\u201d after his buddy asks when 1990 was.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMatthew Perry never shied away from opening up about his struggles after rising to stardom for his role as Chandler Bing in Friends. \u201cWhen [fame] happens, it\u2019s kind of like Disneyland for a while. For me it lasted about eight months, this feeling of \u2018I\u2019ve made it, I\u2019m thrilled, there\u2019s no problem in the world.\u2019 [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As much fun as the cast had while filming the series, Perry admitted in June 2017 that he refused to participate in a revival<\/a>. \u201cI have this recurring nightmare \u2014 I\u2019m not kidding about this. When I\u2019m asleep, I have this nightmare that we do\u00a0Friends<\/em>\u00a0again and nobody cares,\u201d he told\u00a0Variety<\/em>. \u201cWe do a whole series, we come back, and nobody cares about it. So if anybody asks me, I\u2019m gonna say no.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aniston noted during a December 2018 interview on The Late Late Show With James Corden<\/em>, that Perry was not the only one with hesitations. \u201cThe girls always say we would love to do it again, and the boys are a little less excited<\/a> about it for some reason,\u201d the actress said.<\/p>\n

While Chandler was a lovable goof onscreen, Perry faced with darker struggles behind the scenes. He battled addictions<\/a> to both drugs and alcohol in addition to working through depression and anxiety.<\/p>\n

During Friends: The Reunion<\/em><\/a>, which debuted in April 2021 on Max, Perry recalled how hard he was on himself while filming. \u201cI felt like I was gonna die if they didn\u2019t laugh. It\u2019s not healthy for sure, but I would sometimes say a line and they wouldn\u2019t laugh, and I would sweat and go into convulsions,\u201d Perry said. \u201cIf I didn\u2019t get the laugh I was supposed to get, I would freak out. I felt like that every single night.\u201d<\/p>\n
