Britney Spears<\/strong><\/a> opened up about her performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards<\/strong><\/a><\/em> in her memoir The Woman in Me<\/em>. <\/p>\n The 41-year-old superstar took the stage to deliver what was lauded as a comeback performance of her single \u201cGimme More\u201d after taking some time off to raise her sons Sean Preston<\/strong><\/a> and Jayden James<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n However, nothing went exactly according to plan. She explained what went down, why she even agreed to the performance and how her ex Justin Timberlake<\/strong><\/a> was involved in \u201cone of the worst days\u201d of her life. <\/p>\n Read more about Britney Spears\u2019 experience at the 2007 VMAs\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Although she did not want to take the stage, Britney <\/strong>said that she was facing pressure to perform from her team to \u201cshow the world I was fine.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cThe only problem with this plan: I was not fine,\u201d she wrote. That was complicated by additional problems with her costume and hair backstage and a lack of sleep the night before.<\/p>\n Then she ran into Justin<\/strong>, who closed out the show after she opened it.<\/p>\n \u201cEverything was going great in his world. He was at the top of his game in every way, and he had a lot of swagger. In comparison, she wrote, \u201cI was having a panic attack. I hadn\u2019t rehearsed enough. I hated the way I looked. I knew it was going to be bad.\u201d <\/p>\n She noted that she gave the performance her all, even if it wasn\u2019t up to her usual standards. <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not going to defend that performance or say it was good, but I will say that as performers we all have bad nights. They don\u2019t usually have consequences so extreme,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n Making matters worse, Sarah Silverman<\/strong><\/a> took the stage to make jokes about Britney <\/strong>and her sons.
