Britney Spears<\/strong><\/a> has finally spoken about her audition for The Notebook<\/em>, and revealed she almost starred opposite Ryan Gosling<\/strong><\/a> in the 2004 film.<\/p>\n The role of Allie eventually went to Rachel McAdams<\/strong><\/a>, who played the character opposite Ryan, 42, in the classic romance movie. But \u200bBritney\u2019s previously-unseen audition tape, released in full by the Daily Mail<\/em> \u200bMonday, October 23, left fans impressed with \u200bher acting chops \u2013 and some wishing she would take on more roles.<\/p>\n \u201cThat would have changed the timeline dramatically,\u201d one fan wrote via X, formerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n \u201cGive her an Oscar now,\u201d another X user wrote.<\/p>\n In the two-and-a-half-minute clip, the \u201cToxic\u201d singer \u200bbroke down in tears while in character as she \u200btold Noah (Ryan) that she\u2019s marrying Lon (James Marsden<\/strong>).<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not staying, I tried to call you to tell you that I wasn\u2019t going to stay \u2014 but nobody answered the phone,\u201d \u200bBritney, now 41, said in character. \u201cNoah, you can\u2019t marry two people. And I\u2019m marrying Lon, so I should go, okay?\u201d<\/p>\n More than two decades after the pop star auditioned for the film, she confirmed in an excerpt from her new memoir, The Woman in Me<\/em>, released on \u200bTuesday, October 24, she was one of the final two contenders for the part.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Notebook<\/em> casting came down to me and Rachel McAdams, and even though it would have been fun to reconnect with Ryan Gosling after our time on The<\/em> Mickey Mouse Club<\/em>, I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t do it,\u201d \u200bBritney wrote in the excerpt published by People<\/em>.<\/p>\n The film\u2019s casting director, Michael Barry, called Britney\u2019s audition \u201cphenomenal\u201d in an interview with the Daily Mail<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cBritney wasn\u2019t just good \u2014 she was phenomenal,\u201d he told the Daily Mail<\/em> of the 2002 audition. \u201cIt was a tough decision. Britney blew us all away. Our jaws were on the floor. I was blown away. Absolutely blown away. She brought her A-game that day.\u201d<\/p>\n No doubt the role would have been a game changer for Britney\u2019s career as an actress. The Grammy winner didn\u2019t make the jump to the big screen until she starred in the \u200b2002 \u200bcomedy drama Crossroads<\/em>, but said the filming experience negatively impacted her mental health<\/a>.<\/p>\n In her new memoir, the pop icon said filming \u201cwasn\u2019t easy\u201d for her, and \u200bopened up about the difficulties that came with the role.<\/p>\n In another excerpt from the book, shared with People<\/em> \u200bon \u200bOctober 17, Britney revealed that her approach to Method acting \u2013 a process that involved heavy dedication to the role \u2013 wasn\u2019t good for her mind.<\/p>\n \u201cI think I started Method acting \u2014 only I didn\u2019t know how to break out of my character,\u201d the \u201cCircus\u201d singer explained. \u201cI really became this other person. Some people do Method acting, but they\u2019re usually aware of the fact that they\u2019re doing it. But I didn\u2019t have any separation at all.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued, \u201cI ended up walking differently, carrying myself differently, talking differently. I was someone else for months while I filmed Crossroads<\/em>. Still to this day, I bet the girls I shot that movie with think, She\u2019s a little\u2026quirky. If they thought that, they were right.\u201d<\/p>\n Britney wrote that she was \u201crelieved\u201d after filming was over, adding, \u201cI hope I never get close to that occupational hazard again. Living that way, being half yourself and half a fictional character, is messed up.
