Britney Spears<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 audition for The Notebook<\/em><\/a> has finally surfaced online 20 years later \u2014 and she makes a compelling performance as Allie.<\/p>\n

The video , which was published by the Daily Mail<\/em><\/a> on Monday, October 23, featured the singer sobbing as she read lines with an off-camera Ryan Gosling<\/strong><\/a>. (The 2004 romantic period drama starred Gosling as blue-collar Noah, who falls in love with upper-class Allie, a role which eventually went to Rachel McAdams<\/strong><\/a>, in 1940s South Carolina.)<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, Noah, I can\u2019t be here. Not the way I feel about you. It\u2019s not fair to Lon,\u201d Spears-as-Allie declares in the monologue, which takes place as the characters reunite while Allie is engaged to another man. \u201cLook, Noah \u2014 you can\u2019t marry two people. And I\u2019m marrying Lon. So I should go, OK?\u201d But her character doesn\u2019t leave.<\/p>\n

\u201cI prayed for you to die \u2026 in the war. Really,\u201d Spears continues, getting emotional. \u201cWell, not die. I would\u2019ve felt completely horrible if you had died but I just kinda didn\u2019t want you to be alive anymore \u2018cause I couldn\u2019t bear the thought of you being with somebody else or us never seeing each other again.\u201d<\/p>\n
