On Friday morning, Jim Jordan<\/strong><\/a> lost his third vote to become the next Speaker of the House. While still a far cry from the whopping 14 rounds<\/em> Kevin McCarthy<\/strong> lost before ultimately winning the job<\/a> in January, the current situation appears to be somehow even more desperate. That\u2019s because Republicans are not anywhere near a consensus on who should lead the House\u2014which was made readily apparent after they formally dropped Jordan<\/a> as the nominee following a closed-door vote.<\/p>\n In a sign of just how shockingly disastrous things have gotten, even McCarthy, who earlier in the week was simply blaming<\/a> everything on Democrats, admitted Friday that Republicans \u201care in a very bad place right now.\u201d He specifically blamed<\/a> the \u201cCrazy Eights,\u201d who voted to oust him earlier in the month, for the chaos, and added, \u201cI\u2019ve never seen this amount of damage done\u2026it\u2019s astonishing to me.\u201d<\/p>\n This content can also be viewed on the site it originates<\/a> from.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The decision to officially drop Jordan came shortly after said Crazy Eights put out a letter proposing that if the Jordan holdouts\u2014whose numbers had grown with each successive ballot<\/a>\u2014\u201cwould be willing to \u2018vote with the team\u2019 and elect him the 56th House Speaker, we are prepared to accept censure, suspension, or removal from the Conference to accomplish this objective.\u201d The letter was signed by representatives Andy Biggs, Ken Buck, Tim Burchett, Eli Crane, Matt Gaetz, Bob Good, Nancy Mace,<\/strong> and Matt Rosendale.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n This content can also be viewed on the site it originates<\/a> from.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Such a proposition seemed unlikely to have any chance of actually working for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the fact that after the letter was released, Ken Buck told a Politico reporter<\/a> that he had never signed it and claimed<\/a> he didn\u2019t want his name on it and that he has no intention of electing Jordan.<\/p>\nX content<\/h4>\n
