On Wednesday, following two failed attempts<\/a> to convince enough of his colleagues to let him have the leadership position, Jim Jordan<\/strong> hit pause on his quest to succeed Kevin McCarthy<\/strong> as Speaker of the House. During a closed-door meeting, Jordan told<\/a> Republicans that he would support giving interim Speaker Patrick McHenry<\/strong> the job through January 3 while attempting to shore up support to ultimately win the gig, according to The New York Times.<\/em> How, exactly, will the representative from Ohio persuade a growing number of skeptical lawmakers that he\u2019s the right person to lead the House? That\u2019s not clear at this time, but one would hope it would not<\/em> involve tactics from his allies like intimidating someone\u2019s wife via anonymous text messages, as was apparently previously the case.<\/p>\n Representative Don Bacon<\/strong> told<\/a> Politico this week that his wife had received numerous anonymous emails and text\u00a0messages telling her: \u201cYour husband better support Jim Jordan.\u201d In one exchange, posted to X by reporter Olivia Beavers,<\/strong> an unidentified individual told Bacon\u2019s spouse,\u00a0\u201cYour husband will not hold any political office ever again. What a disappoint (sic) and failure he is.\u201d In another, she was told,\u00a0\u201cTalk to your husband tell him to step up and be a leader and help the\u00a0Republican Party\u00a0get a speaker there\u2019s too much going on in the world for all this going on in the Republican Party you guys take five steps forward and then turn around take 20 steps backwards no wonder our party always ends up getting screwed over.\u201d<\/p>\n This content can also be viewed on the site it originates<\/a> from.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Bacon was not the only GOP lawmaker who reportedly received undue pressure from Jordan\u2019s allies; other Republicans told Politico they were subject to \u201ca barrage of calls from local conservative leaders.\u201d Representative\u00a0Mariannette Miller-Meeks<\/strong> also claimed<\/a> in a statement Wednesday that she had even \u201creceived credible death threats and a barrage of threatening calls\u201d after voting for someone other than Jordan.\u00a0\u201cOne thing I cannot stomach, or support is a bully,\u201d she wrote. Representative Mario D\u00edaz-Balart<\/strong>\u00a0expressed<\/a> the same sentiment Monday, telling reporters,\u00a0\u201cIf anybody\u2019s trying to get my vote, the last thing you want to do is try to intimidate or pressure me because then I close out entirely.\u201d\u00a0And Representative Victoria Spartz<\/strong>\u00a0similarly came out against the strong-arm tactics, reportedly saying,\u00a0\u201cI truly believe these intimidation techniques\u2026are not acceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n Republicans who spoke to Politico blamed the intimidation campaign on Jordan\u2019s backers, and the outlet noted that, \u201cby all accounts,\u201d the Ohio rep wasn\u2019t directly involved.\u00a0But some believe he didn\u2019t do enough to, per Politico, \u201ctell allies to knock it off.\u201d<\/p>\n On Wednesday, apparently seeking to distance himself from it all, Jordan took to X<\/a> to write<\/a>: \u201cNo American should accost another for their beliefs.
