On Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/10\/18\/hacker-leaks-millions-more-23andme-user-records-on-cybercrime-forum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>TechCrunch<\/em> reported<\/a> that a hacker claims to have leaked 4 million genetic profiles belonging to people in Great Britain, along with \u201cthe wealthiest people living in the U.S. and Western Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">The hacker, who goes by \u201cGolem,\u201d is the same one that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/10\/7\/23907330\/23andme-leak-hackers-selling-user-dna-data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stole 1 million lines of genetic data<\/a> from 23andMe earlier this month, according to <em>TechCrunch<\/em>. Golem posted this latest round of data on the hacking site BreachForums.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Katie Watson, the vice president of communications at 23andMe, tells <em>The Verge<\/em> the company was \u201cmade aware\u201d that the same hacker claims to have leaked another trove of what they claim is customer information. \u201cWe are currently reviewing the data to determine if it is legitimate,\u201d Watson says.\u00a0\u201cOur investigation is ongoing and if we learn that a customer\u2019s data has been accessed without their authorization, we will notify them directly with more information.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.23andme.com\/articles\/addressing-data-security-concerns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a blog post published<\/a> on October 6th, 23andMe confirmed that the data included in the previous leak was legitimate and affected the platform\u2019s DNA Relatives feature, which lets users match with other potential genetic relatives on 23andMe.
