The \u2018Full House\u2019 actor, 60, revealed the memories of the alleged assaults only hit him while he was writing his upcoming memoir \u2018If You Would Have Told Me\u2019, which is due out 24 October, and added he would play \u201cdead\u201d to try and get his minder to stop. <\/p>\n
He told People: \u201cI remembered it slightly. It has always been there, but I packed it away as people do, right?\u201d<\/p>\n
John added that even though the abuse was \u201calways in the back\u201d of his head he had previously dismissed it and didn\u2019t tell anybody. <\/p>\n
He said: \u201cIt was like you\u2019re playing dead so they\u2019ll stop. But it wasn\u2019t totally aggressive. I don\u2019t know. It was not good. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI was probably like 10 or 11 (at the time.) I shouldn\u2019t have had to deal with those feelings.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nJohn said he has written about his memories of being abused in his autobiography, but said it was only \u201ca page or something\u201d as he \u201cdidn\u2019t want the book to be\u201d about it. <\/p>\n
\nStamos also didn\u2019t want the focus of his tell-all to be about his marriage and divorce from the now 50-year-old actress Rebecca Romijn, but did open up to People about their \u201cshattering\u201d split. <\/p>\n
\nHe admitted about his ex: \u201cI just hated her. I couldn\u2019t believe how much I hated her, and it ruined my life.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nJohn said he also viewed the actress as the \u201cdevil\u201d when they split, but admitted he later came to terms with him being just \u201cas much to blame\u201d for the collapse of their marriage. <\/p>\n
\nJohn and Rebecca have rarely spoken about their breakup since they parted ways in 2004, before they finalised their divorce the following year.<\/p>\n
\nThe star has moved on with actress Caitlin McHugh, 37, with whom he has a five-year-old son, while Rebecca is with actor Jerry O\u2019Connell, 49, respectively. <\/p>\n
\nRebecca admitted in a 2022 episode of \u2018The Talk\u2019 she misses \u201ca lot\u201d of things about John, adding: \u201cDivorce feels like a failure\u2026 and there were a lot of things that I had to let go of that were very sad. I have a lot of really fun memories.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
