The Office<\/em><\/a> showrunner Greg Daniels<\/strong> isn\u2019t opposed to the idea of putting Dunder Mifflin back in business.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I think that it\u2019s very speculative,\u201d Daniels, 60, said of a potential revival during a Tuesday, October 17, interview with Collider<\/em><\/a>. \u201cThe fact that it kind of blew up based on one line in a\u00a0Puck<\/span>\u00a0piece was kind of cool, I guess, in the sense that the fans still care a lot.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this month, a report by Puck News<\/em> <\/a>claimed that a reboot of the hit NBC comedy, which ran from 2005 to 2013, was in the works. According to the outlet, there were plans to formally announce the series after the Writers Guild of America ended its three-month-long strike<\/a> but nothing has been confirmed since the guild ratified a new deal with the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) earlier this month.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While Daniels couldn\u2019t confirm that a new iteration of the beloved sitcom is happening<\/a>, he also didn\u2019t fully shut down the idea, hinting that something may happen in the future. \u201cWhen there\u2019s something to announce, I will definitely announce it,\u201d he promised fans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIt\u2019s been more than 15 years since viewers first followed the employees at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company on The Office. The sitcom, which premiered on NBC March 24, 2005, starred Steve Carell (Michael Scott), Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute), John Krasinski (Jim Halpert), Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesley), Angela Kinsey (Angela Martin), Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor), [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Office<\/em> was critically acclaimed during its nine-season run, earning five Emmy wins and countless nominations. The show was inspired by the U.K. series of the same name and followed Steve Carell<\/strong><\/a> as Michael Scott, the manager of a small \u2014 and failing \u2014 paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. John Krasinski<\/a>, Jenna Fischer<\/a>, Angela Kinsey<\/a>, Rainn Wilson<\/a>,<\/strong> Mindy Kaling <\/a><\/strong>and B.J. Novak<\/strong><\/a> rounded out the main cast, portraying his various disgruntled employees who often vented about their absurd working conditions in mockumentary-style confessionals.<\/p>\n

When it comes to how a show like The Office<\/em> could work today, Daniels told Collider<\/em> that it would be an \u201cinteresting\u201d storytelling challenge<\/a>, especially with all the advancements in technology over the past decade.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you watch old movies it\u2019s like a game to identify what wouldn\u2019t work when everybody had a cell phone,\u201d he explained.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u201cLike, all the story moves of people like, \u2018Oh, they just missed you. Oh, dang.\u2019 Now maybe I\u2019ll get on that boat and go to, you know, it\u2019s just like, \u2018Oh, how frustrating if you only had a cell phone.\u2019 I mean, it\u2019s an interesting question for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reboots and revivals have only gained momentum in the past few years<\/a>, but Daniels hasn\u2019t always been as open to the idea of revisiting the show, telling Entertainment Weekly<\/em><\/a> in 2019 that he would \u201chesitate\u201d to \u201copen\u201d such a \u201cperfect\u201d thing back up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe got the chance to end it the way we wanted to end it. It wasn\u2019t like we were interrupted in the middle of a run or something,\u201d he shared. \u201cSo in a sense, it\u2019s completely an artistic whole. But, that said, I don\u2019t know, the cast every now and then talks about getting back together in some form, but I don\u2019t see it being a reboot like the way Will & Grace<\/em> was rebooted.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kaling, meanwhile\u2014 who portrayed Kelly Kapoor and served as a writer on the series \u2014 isn\u2019t sure The Office<\/em> would work today in any capacity. The show has garnered criticism over the years<\/a> for some of its more controversial story lines and insensitive jokes about race, sex, religion and more.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the characters on that show would be canceled by now. That show is so inappropriate now,\u201d Kaling told Good Morning America<\/em> in December 2022. \u201cThe writers who I\u2019m still in touch with now, we always talk about how so much of that show we probably couldn\u2019t make now.\u201d<\/p>\n
