Who skipped? Adele<\/strong><\/a>, Beyonc\u00e9<\/strong><\/a>, Gwen Stefani<\/strong><\/a> and more were notably absent from the 2023 Grammy Awards<\/a> red carpet on Sunday, February 5.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Taylor Swift<\/b><\/a>, Kendrick Lamar <\/b>and Beyonc\u00e9<\/b><\/a> were all highly anticipated stars who were nominated for the big night. Considering red carpet<\/a> appearances are rare among the A-list group, fans were shocked when Taylor took a stroll down<\/a> the star-studded carpet. As for other stars, like Adele, they chose to slip into the show quietly.<\/p>\n Nicki Minaj<\/b><\/a> was widely considered to be one of the biggest snubs at this year\u2019s awards show<\/a> after her songs \u201cSuper Freaky Girl\u201d and \u201cDo We Have a Problem\u201d were not nominated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The artist, 40, called out the Grammys in October 2022 after it was revealed that Latto<\/b>\u2019s \u201cBig Energy\u201d was nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance, where \u201cSuper Freaky Girl\u201d was up for consideration in the Pop category.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we [are] ALL being treated fairly,\u201d the \u201cSuper Bass\u201d artist tweeted at the time. \u201cIf \u2018SFG\u2019 has [to be] moved out then so does \u2018Big Energy\u2019!\u201d<\/p>\n In response, Latto, 24, tweeted, \u201cDamn, I can\u2019t win for losing \u2026 all these awards\/noms I can\u2019t even celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n The situation spiraled into an online feud between the ladies. Nicki called Latto a \u201cKaren\u201d and a \u201cscratch-off\u201d version of her while the Ohio native slammed Nicki for being a \u201cbully.\u201d<\/p>\n This wasn\u2019t the first time Nicki expressed her displeasure with the Grammys. In 2020, she threw shade at the show for previously not awarding her Best New Artist.<\/p>\n \u201cNever forget the Grammys didn\u2019t give me my Best New Artist award when I had seven songs simultaneously charting on Billboard & [a] bigger first week that any female rapper in the last decade \u2014 went on to inspire a generation,\u201d she tweeted about her 2012 nomination. \u201cThey gave it to the white man Bon [Iver].\u201d<\/p>\n The Grammys has been controversial over the years and garnered criticism from a number of artists. Drake<\/b><\/a>, The Weeknd<\/b><\/a> and more have all been vocal against the show after multiple snubs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In fact, Drake, 36, and The Weeknd, 32, refused to submit their respective albums, Honestly, Nevermind<\/i> and Dawn FM<\/i>, for consideration this year.<\/p>\n In 2020, The Weeknd was upset after he was not nominated for his critically acclaimed album After Hours<\/i>, calling the show \u201ccorrupt\u201d and demanding transparency.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe understand that The Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated,\u201d Grammy chief Harvey Mason Jr.<\/b> wrote in a statement at the time. \u201cI was surprised and can empathize with what he\u2019s feeling. His music this year was excellent \u2026 Unfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists.\u00a0 <\/span>But as the only peer-voted music award, we will continue to recognize and celebrate excellence in music while shining a light on the many amazing artists that make up our global community.\u201d<\/p>\n For Drake\u2019s part, he\u2019s boycotted the show since 2017. The artist, who has won four Grammys during his career, was upset when \u201cHotline Bling\u201d was put in the rap categories instead of pop, where he believed it belonged.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
