Shawn Levy<\/strong> <\/a>thinks Taylor Swift\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> creative vision is reminiscent of another very iconic director.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[Steven] Spielberg<\/strong><\/a> was on the set of a movie he produced that I directed, called Real Steel, and I said to him, \u2018How do you know it\u2019s the right shot?\u2019\u201d Levy, 55, recalled to Entertainment Weekly<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Thursday, October 12. \u201cHis answer was, \u2018The way you see it, that makes it right.\u2019 I feel like that\u2019s something Taylor Swift has figured out really well because that\u2019s about trusting your instinct.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Levy \u2014 who appeared alongside Sadie Sink<\/strong><\/a> and Dylan O\u2019Brien<\/strong><\/a> in Swift\u2019s directorial debut, All Too Well: The Short Film<\/em> \u2014 called the pop star, 33, a \u201cgenerational voice and creative force\u201d whose impact is only matched by Beyonc\u00e9<\/strong><\/a>. The filmmaker noted that it\u2019s \u201cthe depth\u201d of Swift\u2019s vision that makes her so exceptional.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe wants a creative piece to be, whether it\u2019s a lyric, a melody, a bridge, a concert tour, a video, it\u2019s profound<\/a>,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt\u2019s profoundly vivid, and she has the strength of her convictions,\u201d Levy continues, going on to invoke a key Spielberg philosophy that reminds him of Swift\u2019s artistry.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWalk down memory lane! Taylor Swift seemingly hinted at her relationship with ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal in her All Too Well short film. The nearly 15-minute video, written and directed by the 31-year-old Grammy winner, dropped on Friday, November 12, in tandem with the release of Red (Taylor\u2019s Version). Sadie Sink and Dylan O\u2019Brien starred in [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While Levy, who is an executive producer and director for Stranger Things<\/em> <\/a>and the upcoming Deadpool 3<\/em>, said that Swift has \u201cnot consulted\u201d him on any of her upcoming directing projects, he believes she has the making of one \u201chell of a director\u201d if it\u2019s a craft she chooses to continue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It was announced by Searchlight Pictures in December 2022 that Swift will direct her first feature-length film from a screenplay she wrote herself. The project came after she won two MTV VMAs Best Director awards<\/a> \u2014 for her \u201cAll Too Well\u201d and \u201cThe Man\u201d music videos \u2014\u00a0 becoming the first artist in history to do so.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s All Too Well: Short Film<\/em>, which dropped in November 2021, was a nearly 15-minute video written and directed by the Grammy winner in tandem with the release of Red (Taylor\u2019s Version)<\/em>. (Swift is rerecording her first six albums after her masters were bought and sold by Scooter Braun<\/strong><\/a> in June 2019.) Sink, 20, and O\u2019Brien, 32, starred in the project as \u201cHer\u201d and \u201cHim.\u201d (Levy, meanwhile, portrayed Sink\u2019s father.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The short featured the 10-minute version of Swift\u2019s hit \u201cAll Too Well,\u201d<\/a> which is widely rumored to have been about Swift\u2019s relationship with ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal<\/strong><\/a>. While the track was never released as a single during Red\u2019s<\/em> initial release in 2012, it became a fan favorite Swift felt should be honored.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is all about what the fans have turned this song into<\/a>,\u201d she told the Associated Press<\/em> in November 2022. \u201cIt was never a single, never had a video, it never had a visual element to it, but they pretty much created their own imaginary cinematic universe for it, so this is just me following through on what they started and what they told me they wanted.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The singer also praised the film\u2019s stars, Sink and O\u2019Brien, for what they brought to the story. \u201cThey were so prepared, they were so committed,\u201d she told Extra<\/em> at the time. \u201cYou couldn\u2019t really keep your eyes off of them on the monitors, so obviously you try to prepare as much as you can before you get there, but on the day, that electricity is either there or it\u2019s not, and the onscreen chemistry between those two \u2014 they\u2019re just so talented.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Swift first teased that she had bigger plans for the song when she announced the release of Red (Taylor\u2019s Version)<\/em> in June 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
