Amber Portwood<\/strong> <\/a>and her 14-year-old daughter, Leah, had a breakthrough in their often rocky relationship during the Teen Mom: The Next Chapter <\/em>reunion<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the two-hour special, which aired on Wednesday, October 11, Leah sat next to all three of her parental figures \u2014 mom Amber, 33, dad Gary Shirley<\/strong> and stepmom Kristina Shirley<\/strong> \u2014 as she spoke candidly<\/a> about how they have all helped her through the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really appreciate everybody. \u2019Cause, I mean, being a teenager \u2026 it\u2019s stressful,\u201d Leah told her parents. \u201cI have people that have gone through everything that I\u2019m going to go through, so it just makes it easier.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a lot of trust in all of you guys,\u201d she added, looking at all three of her parents.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAmber Portwood\u2019s fraught relationship with daughter Leah has been documented on Teen Mom OG over the years. Portwood gave birth to her baby girl in 2008 with then-boyfriend Gary Shirley. The former couple split three years later, with Shirley going on to wed Kristina Anderson, with whom he shares daughter Emilee. As for Portwood, the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The moment caused Amber to burst into tears.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the first time I ever heard [Leah say that],\u201d Amber told her daughter, wiping away tears. \u201cThank you, I love you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI love you too,\u201d Leah replied.<\/p>\n

It was a monumental moment for the mother-daughter duo, whose estranged relationship has played out on MTV for years<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Amber \u2014 whose substance abuse struggles<\/a>, mental health issues<\/a> and legal woes<\/a> have played a significant role in her and Leah\u2019s estrangement \u2014 sobbed even harder when explaining what her daughter\u2019s words meant to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI f\u2014king try so hard to be there for her. And I\u2019m so happy that no matter what I did, she learned something,\u201d Amber said. \u201cThat means so much.\u201d<\/p>\n

After apologizing to Leah for being \u201cdepressed sometimes,\u201d the MTV personality emphasized how \u201cimportant\u201d her firstborn is to her. (Amber is also the mother of son James, 5, whom she shares with ex Andrew Glennon<\/strong><\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhere does the time go? Teen Mom premiered on MTV in 2009, and Catelynn Lowell, Amber Portwood, Maci Bookout and Farrah Abraham\u2019s kids are all grown up. In fact, Abraham has been criticized for just how mature her daughter is. The Ex on the Beach star faced backlash after she\u00a0shared a video of Sophia dancing [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI just want you to be, your, like, healthy self for your mental health,\u201d Leah told her mom, who responded through tears, \u201cI try my best and I\u2019m happy that you see that. I didn\u2019t know that you saw that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leah, for her part, emphasized just how important her mom is to her \u2014 no matter what they\u2019ve gone through throughout the years. \u201cYou\u2019ve made a big difference in my life,\u201d Leah replied. \u201cLike, you really helped.\u201d<\/p>\n
