Last month, Jill Duggar published her debut memoir<\/a>.<\/p>\n And within a week, the reality star, cult survivor, wife and mother was able to add bestselling author<\/a> to her resum\u00e9.<\/p>\n Usually, authors are hesitant to talk about how much money they\u2019ve earned from their book.<\/p>\n But Jill\u2019s is a special case \u2026<\/p>\n In her memoir and in numerous interviews over the years, Jill claimed that she barely received any money<\/a> for the work she did on her family\u2019s reality shows.<\/p>\n So revealing how much she was paid for her literary debut \u2014 in which she criticizes the abusive father who pocketed all her cash \u2014 amounts to a sort of well-earned victory dance.<\/p>\n Maybe that\u2019s why her husband and co-author, Derick Dillard, felt comfortable going into detail about the couple\u2019s financial situation during a recent podcast appearance.<\/p>\n Earlier this week, Derick called into \u201cThe Ramsey Show,\u201d where he opened up about how the success of Counting the Cost<\/em> has affected his bank account.<\/p>\n Derick revealed that he and Jill have already enjoyed a tidy profit from the project, including a $50,000 check from the publisher on the day the book was released.<\/p>\n From there, Dillard launched into a larger discussion about his family\u2019s finances.<\/p>\n He explained that the \u201cnormal household income \u2026 fluctuates\u201d in the Dillard home from one year to the next.<\/p>\n Derick says that as recently as 2022, the family was living mostly off of his income as an attorney, which consisted of about $65,000.<\/p>\n (It was Derick\u2019s first year of practice. He\u2019ll likely earn more in the future.)<\/p>\n The situation has improved dramatically since, with the Dillards expecting to earn approximately $150,000 this year and around $85,000 in 2024.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s just with my income plus a little bit of income in addition to, like [what] my wife brings in from social media and things,\u201d Derick said, according to<\/a> The Ashley\u2019s Reality Roundup.<\/p>\n Derick says the best part of this improved financial situation is that he and Jill have finally paid off all of their debts. <\/p>\n (It seems they still owe on their mortgage, but are otherwise out of the hole.)<\/p>\n Debt, as you may know, is a very big deal in the Duggars\u2019 world.<\/p>\n Jill was raised to believe that it\u2019s sinful to owe money, as it forces one to engage with \u201cthe material world,\u201d which is really just an illusion created by the devil.<\/p>\n
