Reba McEntire nearly quit music after her mother died<\/p>\n
\nThe 68-year-old country star has enjoyed decades of success in showbiz but revealed that when her mother Jacqueline died in 2020 at the age of 93, she felt like she wanted to give it all up when looking back on photographs with her sister Susie.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking on ‘The Today Show’, she said: “I was going through pictures. I said, \u2018I just don\u2019t think I\u2019m gonna do this anymore.\u2019 She said, \u2018What?\u2019 I said, \u2018Sing!” She said, \u2018What?\u2019 I said, \u2018Sing,’. “I said, \u2018I always did it for Mama.\u2019 She said, \u2018Oh, you\u2019ll get it back.\u2019 I did.”<\/p>\n
\nThe ‘Seven Minutes in Heaven’ songstress went on to add that her mother had been such a source of “encouragement” to her during her youth and believed they could do whatever they wanted to do.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “She was really encouraging for all of us kids, whatever we wanted to do. She taught us harmony. Anytime anybody needed an opinion of who\u2019s off \u2014 Susie\u2019s on my part, I\u2019m on Susie\u2019s part \u2014 Mama would come in with her spatula after she was frying potatoes. She would say, \u2018OK, Reba, you\u2019re on Susie\u2019s part. Sing it again.\u2019 We\u2019d sing it, and she\u2019d say, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s perfect,\u2019 and she\u2019d go back in and keep frying potatoes.”<\/p>\n
\nThe ‘Consider Me Gone’ singer recently explained that she decided to keep going with her career because singing his her “God-given gift” and she still loves it all these years later. <\/p>\n
\nShe told ETCanada: “I realized I\u2019m still doing it because I love it. And it\u2019s my God given gift that I cherish. I absolutely love to get to sing songs to make people feel something, whether it\u2019s sad, happy, whatever it is. And so that\u2019s the gift she gave me and Susie and [my brother] Pake. And so you got to keep on going.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
