GOP Representative Ken Buck<\/strong> was one of eight Republicans who voted to oust<\/a> Kevin McCarthy<\/strong> as House Speaker last week, but he\u2019s not backing either of the leading candidates to replace the guy. And for one pretty good reason: They won\u2019t admit that Donald Trump<\/strong> lost the 2020 election.<\/p>\n After asking<\/a> both Steve Scalise<\/strong> and Jim Jordan<\/strong> during a closed-door meeting if the ex-president won the last election, and not getting a resounding \u201cno,\u201d Buck refused<\/a> to vote for either candidate for the job, simply declaring \u201cpresent\u201d when asked. \u201cIf we don\u2019t have the moral clarity to decide whether President Biden won or not, we don\u2019t have the moral clarity to rule in this country, period,\u201d Buck told<\/a> HuffPost. \u201cThey weren\u2019t direct. They evaded the question,\u201d Buck said. \u201cI wasn\u2019t happy, so I voted \u2018present.\u2019\u201d (Scalise ultimately won<\/a> the vote by 113 to 99, though it\u2019s not clear what will happen once the proceedings move to the House floor.)<\/p>\n Asked later on MSNBC why he thought neither Scalise or Jordan were willing to say \u201cthe 2020 election wasn\u2019t stolen,\u201d Buck told Katy Tur:<\/strong> \u201cThere\u2019s a large group of Trump followers in this country that would disagree with that and there would be a political penalty for saying such a thing.\u201d<\/p>\n This content can also be viewed on the site it originates<\/a> from.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n As The<\/em> Washington Post<\/em> notes<\/a>, that\u2019s probably true, given the depressing fact that \u201cCNN-SSRS polling has\u00a0consistently shown\u00a0that most Republicans in the United States think that\u00a0Joe Biden<\/strong>\u00a0wasn\u2019t legitimately elected in 2020, with a third saying there\u2019s solid evidence he wasn\u2019t. (There isn\u2019t.)\u201d<\/p>\n Both Scalise and Jordan were among the 147 GOP lawmakers who objected to the 2020 election results on January 6, even after Trump supporters attacked the Capitol.
