Google isn\u2019t just promising seven years of upgrades<\/a> for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro \u2014 the company says it\u2019ll also stock spare parts for seven years as well. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cParts will be available for seven years. That\u2019s part of our commitment,\u201d Soniya Jobanputra, director of product management at Google, told\u00a0Android Authority<\/em><\/a>. \u201c[W]e need to make our parts available so you can keep your hardware alive for that long.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n We\u2019re currently on the precipice of California signing its right-to-repair bill into law<\/a>. That law would require companies to offer spare parts (and tools, and documentation) for at least seven years \u201cafter the last date a product model or type was manufactured.\u201d The law likely wouldn\u2019t go into effect until July 1, 2024 \u2014 but Google appears to be getting out ahead of it anyhow. The current text of the bill suggests it would cover devices sold since July 1st, 2021.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Google\u2019s seven-year upgrade promise also includes \u201cOS, security, and Feature Drop updates\u201d through 2030.
