I didn\u2019t need to see what everyone was doing,\u201d Selena told Fast Company<\/em><\/a> on Tuesday, October 3. \u201cThen there were those moments of not feeling positive about how I looked because of what I\u2019d see on Instagram. Wow, I wish my body looked like that.\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cCalm Down\u201d singer, 31, later reflected on evolving from a \u201cteenager body\u201d and how the world ridiculed her changing appearance. \u201cNone of the sample sizes were fitting, and that would make me feel embarrassed,\u201d she continued. \u201cAlthough how unrealistic is it to expect a normal woman\u2019s body not to change?\u201d<\/p>\n While going through a high-profile breakup, Selena was diagnosed with bipolar disorder \u2013 though it wasn\u2019t publicly revealed until 2020. The Emmy award winner reflected on her diagnosis, while admitting she \u201cdidn\u2019t know\u201d who she was at the time because she \u201cgrew up\u201d being a \u201cpeople pleaser.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI had a responsibility at a very young age \u2014 young people were looking up to me. I didn\u2019t know who I was,\u201d she explained in reference to her Barney & Friends<\/em> and Disney career. \u201cHaving that responsibility would make me walk on eggshells a lot. I thought maybe it would be damaging to tell people who I am. It started to become a threat that freaked me out. Well, if you\u2019re not right, then you can\u2019t work.\u201d<\/p>\n Although Selena was faced with a life-changing health battle, her bipolar diagnosis helped her understand why she felt extreme highs and lows that she \u201ccouldn\u2019t control.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI would want to cancel things. It was just a tormented feeling. That\u2019s why, when I found out my diagnosis, it was just, \u2018Oh, okay, I feel a bit relieved, I understand a bit more,\u2019\u201d she shared. \u201cI got second opinions. I went to doctors. I\u2019m fortunate enough to be able to have people who can help me survive every day.\u201d<\/p>\n Instead of sulking in her sorrows, Selena used her adversity and personal struggles to help inspire her award-winning makeup brand Rare Beauty. The Only Murders in the Building<\/em> actress launched the business in 2020 and has led the brand to high success, like earning $100 million in revenue<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n As for her relationship with Justin, 29, \u200bthey ended their relationship for good in March 2018 after nearly eight of dating on and off. Justin has since moved on and married his wife, Hailey Bieber (n\u00e9e Baldwin)<\/strong><\/a> in September 2018. There has since been a rumored feud between the two women, but they have cleared the air and set the record straight on their feelings toward one another.<\/p>\n Selena and Hailey, 26, posed together for a photo at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures\u2019 2nd annual gala in October 2022 after months of defending their amicable bond. Still, fans didn\u2019t stop from pitting the women against each other online, leading Selena to publicly defend the Rhode Beauty founder<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cHailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,\u201d she wrote via Instagram Stories in March. \u201cThis isn\u2019t what I stand for.
