She now shares the record for most Olympic and world medals with Vitaly Scherbo, who competed for the Soviet Union, the Unified Team and Belarus.

Today’s team win is Simone’s 20th gold medal at the world championships and her 26th world championship medal overall. She won her first world championship medal ten years ago (coincidentally, worlds were held in Antwerp that year too).

The Brazilian women came in second place, their first team medal at the world championships. France finished third, earning their first team medal since they won silver at the 1950 world championships.

The men’s third place finish is their first world championship team medal in nine years!
