Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a> is returning for its 49th season with Pete Davidson<\/strong><\/a> set to make his hosting debut during the first episode.<\/p>\n

\u201cSEASON 49 \ud83d\udd1c\ud83d\udd1c\ud83d\udd1c\ud83d\udd1c,\u201d the official SNL<\/em> Instagram<\/a> page wrote alongside two of the sketch comedy show\u2019s iconic cork board lineup announcements on Wednesday, October 4. Davidson, 29, was listed as the host for the October 14 season 49 premiere while Ice Spice<\/strong><\/a> was named as the episode\u2019s musical guest.<\/p>\n

A subsequent photo announced that Bad Bunny<\/strong> <\/a>will serve as both host and musical guest for the October 21 episode.<\/p>\n

Davidson was previously slated to host SNL<\/em> in May with musical guest Lil Uzi Vert<\/strong><\/a>, but the episode was canceled<\/a> due to the Writers Guild of America strike<\/a>. \u201cSNL<\/em> will air repeats until further notice,\u201d NBC announced on May 2.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the cancellation, Davidson, who was an SNL<\/em> cast member<\/a> from 2014 to 2022, was prepared for the possibility that the show might not go on.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really funny, [SNL<\/em> executive producer] Lorne [Michaels]<\/strong><\/a> told me a couple months ago [that I was hosting], but then, this week, as you know, the writers strike might happen,\u201d Davidson said during an April appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/em>. \u201cSo, I\u2019ve been working on this for like two, three months, and they\u2019re like, \u2018Yeah, we\u2019ll know Monday if it\u2019s happening or not.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Although the WGA voted to end its five-month-long strike<\/a> on September 26, SAG-AFTRA\u2019s strike, which began in July, is ongoing. After SNL<\/em>\u2019s return was announced, SAG-AFTRA released a statement explaining why the show is allowed to continue.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe biggest names in Hollywood are showing their support for the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike by joining their fellow union members on the picket lines. In July, the labor union \u2014 which represents more than 160,000 TV and film actors \u2014 voted to go on strike after the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cSAG-AFTRA members appearing on Saturday Night Live<\/em> either as hosts, guests, or cast members are working under the Network Code agreement, which is not a contract we are striking. They are not in violation of SAG-AFTRA strike rules, and we support them in fulfilling their contractual obligations,\u201d the statement shared via the union\u2019s website<\/a> began.<\/p>\n

The entire cast of SNL<\/em>\u2019s 48th season is returning for season 49. That means Michael Che<\/strong><\/a>, Mikey Day<\/strong>, Andrew Dismukes<\/strong><\/a>, Chloe Fineman<\/strong><\/a>, Heidi Gardner<\/strong><\/a>, Punkie Johnson<\/strong>, Colin Jost<\/strong><\/a>, Ego Nwodim<\/strong><\/a>, Kenan Thompson<\/strong><\/a> and Bowen Yang<\/strong><\/a> will all be back in action on October 14. James Austin Johnson<\/strong> and Sarah Sherman<\/strong> have also been promoted from featured players to repertory status for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n
