The \u2018Luther\u2019 actor, 51, said he spiralled into \u201cunhealthy habits\u201d due to his many roles, which have ranged from acting in Hollywood and TV hits to opening a bar and charitable work.<\/p>\n
He told the \u2018Changes\u2019 podcast about deciding to turn to a counsellor to help him tackle his work-life imbalance: \u201cI\u2019ve been in therapy for about a year now. It\u2019s a lot.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn my therapy, I\u2019ve been thinking a lot about changing, almost to the point of neuropaths being changed and shifting.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not because I don’t like myself or anything like that, it\u2019s just because I have some unhealthy habits that have really formed.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd I work in an industry that I\u2019m rewarded for those unhealthy habits, I\u2019m rewarded for that.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe actor added he once found himself working for 10 days straight on a film set and spent his downtime relaxing in his music studio instead of being with his family. <\/p>\n
\nHe added to \u2018Changes\u2019 host Annie Macmanus: \u201cWhether it\u2019s to be selfish, or (because) I\u2019m a workaholic. I\u2019m an absolute workaholic, and that isn\u2019t great for life generally.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cNothing that\u2019s too extreme is good \u2013 everything needs balance \u2013 but I\u2019m rewarded massively to be a workaholic (compared) to someone that\u2019s like, \u2018Er, I\u2019m not going to see my family for six months\u2019, and I\u2019m in there grinding and making a new family and leave them.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThose are pathways that I had to be like, \u2018I\u2019ve got to adjust.\u2019 So I\u2019ve been thinking about this a lot and oddly enough a lot of our childhood is really at the root of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAsked if he wants to work less by former BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie, 45, the star responded: \u201cWork less? Come on.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe thing is, the things that make me relaxed end up being work. My studio in my house, I just love being in here.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019ll open that laptop and be like, \u2018I don\u2019t know what to make today\u2019 and it\u2019ll come out like this or that.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd I\u2019m exhilarated by that and also so relaxed by it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nIdris married his third wife, Canadian model Sabrina Dhowre, 34, in 2019 and has daughter Isan and son Winston from previous relationships.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
