A cyber crook from Russia has claimed to be behind an \u201cattack\u201d on the royals\u2019 site after the royal.uk domain started displaying an error message stating Gateway time-out Error code 504 on Sunday. (01.10.23)<\/p>\n
Hacker \u2018KillMilk\u2019 has been bragging on encrypted messaging app Telegram \u2013 notorious for being used by terror groups \u2013 of their apparent successful hack of the page.<\/p>\n
They wrote it was an \u201cattack on paedophiles…\u201d with a sad face emoji on the messaging site, with a picture of King Charles used in the background.<\/p>\n
Check Host, a website that covers sites that have gone down across the web, commented about the supposed Russian hack: \u201cIncredible if real!\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe site showed a list of countries where the Royal website was down, including the UK, UAE, Ukraine, US, Turkey, Russia, Japan, Poland and others. <\/p>\n
\nBut a source told The Sun Online: \u201cThe website wasn\u2019t hacked. It was a denial of service attack.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThis is when a site is bombarded with access requests. The royal household\u2019s systems and content was not accessed.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe can\u2019t say yet who was responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nKillMilk is the leader of a Russian hacking collective that calls itself Killnet.<\/p>\n
\nThey recently announced on Telegram the establishment of \u2018Black Skills\u2019 \u2013 a name thought to have been inspired by mercenary companies in Russia.<\/p>\n
\nThe supposed attack comes after the late Queen Elizabeth stepped up defences against hackers after learning the royal family were a high-profile target.<\/p>\n
\nIt\u2019s thought the family\u2019s site went down shortly after 10.20am on Sunday and lasted around two hours.<\/p>\n
\nThe Sun Online added IT experts for the royals worked on \u201cfully restoring the website\u201d, but said Buckingham Palace declined to comment when approached for comment.<\/p>\n
\nIn July 2021, Queen Elizabeth \u2013 who died aged 96 in September 2022 \u2013 ordered increased online security following a report from her cyber security experts who warned there was a high rather than medium risk of unauthorised access to royal household data.<\/p>\n
\nExperts also warned international cyber terrorists were a potential threat to King Charles\u2019 coronation in May.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
