It\u2019s been a long time since Snoop Dogg<\/strong> (born Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr.) was known solely as a musician. The polymath has his hands in a cannabis-focused VC firm<\/a>, a breakfast cereal brand<\/a>, a pet products company<\/a>, and many other ventures<\/a>. But not everything the icon touches turns to gold (despite news reports to the contrary<\/a>), as after announcing a coffee company to great fanfare in March, he reportedly departed his brainchild just a few months later.<\/p>\n Even in the hyperbolic world of food brand press releases, the one for INDOxyz stood out. The company, which Broadus co-founded with Indonesian coffee entrepreneur Michael Riady<\/strong>, was \u201cgoing to change the industry, I can promise you that,\u201d Snoop said in the announcement<\/a>. How that would happen was not explained, as the business seemed similar to other coffee companies. Beans would be harvested from farms in Sumatra, Java, Bali and Sulawesi then roasted and packaged in L.A., via Riady\u2019s Tentera Surf and Coffee Roasters<\/a>, Daily Coffee News reported at the time<\/a>.<\/p>\n Despite this fairly unremarkable model, the brand\u2014which at present offers<\/a> a canned cold brew ($5.99) and a dark roast bean ($17.99), as well as a logoed trucker hat, sweatsuit, and hoodie\u2014secured distribution via retailers such as Albertsons, BevMo, Erewhon, and Safeway, Food and Wine reported in March<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n But since then, we haven\u2019t heard much from Snoop about INDOxyz, nor has the industry changed as a result of its launch. Perhaps that\u2019s because Snoop left the company he co-founded with Riady just a few months after it started, Page Six reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n The company, which per an SEC filing<\/a> had raised $5,399,480 prior to its launch (Christina Milian<\/strong> and Coco Vinny<\/strong> are listed as \u201cadditional founders,\u201d among others), \u201cwas kaput just after two months,\u201d Page Six reports, citing an unnamed \u201cinsider.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cSnoop and his team left the company, dropping all ownership and stake in the company\u201d after a 16-day investigation into the company\u2019s management, the source told Page Six. \u201cThey did not offer a reason.\u201d<\/p>\n Raidy is the grandson of billionaire magnate Mochtar Riady<\/strong><\/a>, the Jakarta Globe<\/a> notes, and the founder of real estate conglomerate the Lippo Group<\/a>. The businessman, who is now 94, \u201chas given me a lot of inspiration and knowledge about business,\u201d Raidy told Shoutout LA<\/a> in 2020. \u201cEvery breakfast, lunch and dinner discussion is about business,\u201d Raidy said. \u201cWe never talk about holidays or sports.\u201d<\/p>\n Snoop, meanwhile, once told Vanity Fair<\/em><\/a> that his favorite occupation is \u201cfootball coach\u201d and that his most marked characteristic is \u201csmoking weed.\u201d Perhaps those contrasting interests were the cause of his departure from INDOxyz\u2014or with so many other irons in the fire, perhaps it just made good business sense to drop this foray into the jam-packed and competitive coffee market like it was hot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
