This movie was made for 80$m (and will probably not recoup it) — Gareth Edwards thinks they should have done it for less.<\/p>\n

VFX were added "almost improvisationally" afterward after filming a proof of concept reel with actors on real sets. There were years of testing.<\/p>\n

“Essentially, if you make sure everything in the immediate 10 or 20 meters [of the frame] is for real and that the stuff that you’re going to invent is in the distance<\/b>,” he says. “The way parallax works, the brain can’t tell motion beyond about 20 meters. It’s like putting digital matte paintings behind your foreground. That’s a really good bang for your buck.” (Basically, the things farther away can be made with VFX; Smaller, less chances to mess up)<\/p>\n

As someone who did nawt like Rogue One, I watched it and while it's not beating the formulaic allegations, I loved the focus on Southeast Asia that wasn't just set dressing for an ~aesthetic, I did ugly cry at the end.<\/p>\n
