\u201cIf they could get me a cameo in an X-wing and I would get to say, \u2018\u2019Red Seven standing by before we take down the Death Star\u2019 \u2013 that would make me a very happy man, so that was always my childhood dream.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe PM refused to say which of the \u2018Star Wars\u2019 characters he identified, saying he would leave others to decide.<\/p>\n
\nBut social media has started to fill with mockery against the UK leader, with one X user joking: \u201cStrong Dark Helmet energy from the billionaire.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAnother said about the Conservatives\u2019 leader: \u201cI certainly wish he and all the Tories were in a galaxy far, far away.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMore critiics mocked him for not even being able to be honest about which \u2018Star Wars\u2019 character he thought he was most like.<\/p>\n
\nAnd another said alongside a cartoon meme of a spaceship exploding around a pilot: \u201cAw\u2026 look it\u2019s iccle #RishiSunak piloting his X-Wing and just like everything else the man touches\u2026 this has gone to s*** too. Who\u2019s he trying to fool that he\u2019s on the good side, he\u2019s a p*** weak Sith accountant #StarWars @RishiSunak.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMr Sunak\u2019s interview came on the same day the PM dodged questions over the future of the HS2 \u2013 the northern leg of the high speed rail line between Birmingham and Manchester.<\/p>\n
\nOne critic said on X it looked as if the railway was as doomed as the Death Star.<\/p>\n
\nThe PM\u2019s love of \u2018Star Wars\u2019 is well-known in Westminster, and he is said to have a sizeable lightsaber collection at his mansions.<\/p>\n
\nThere has even been speculation the politician \u2013 who visited the Star Wars area in Disneyland on a trip to California this summer \u2013 draws on the movies for his political philosophy. <\/p>\n
\nWhen he was Treasury chief secretary in 2019, Mr Sunak tweeted a photo of himself and his then boss Sajid Javid at a screening of \u2018The Rise of Skywalker\u2019 \u2013 calling Mr Javid a \u201cJedi Master\u201d in the caption. <\/p>\n
\nWhen Mr Javid resigned as chancellor in February 2020, after losing a power struggle with Mr Johnson’s former adviser Dominic Cummings, he tweeted about his successor: “The Force is strong in young Sunak.”<\/p>\n
\nOther British politicians have made \u2018Star Wars\u2019 in the Commons, including Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, who once compared Boris Johnson to Jabba the Hutt during Prime Minister\u2019s Questions.<\/p>\n
\nConservative former chancellor George Osborne\u2019s name, meanwhile, appears in the credits for 2015\u2019s \u2018Star Wars: The Force Awakens\u2019 \u2013 as tax relief he granted to the filmmakers helped ensure it would be shot in Britain.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
