Call it a \u201cSign o\u2019 the Financial Times,\u201d as Prince<\/a> once needed Anderson Cooper<\/strong><\/a> to break it down \u2013 economically<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cPrince, I met in a really weird way in Los Angeles,\u201d Cooper, 56, said during SiriusXM\u2019s \u201cThe Howard Stern Show\u201d<\/a> on Tuesday, September 26. \u201cHe came over to talk to me. He sat down next to me \u2014 it was at a dinner \u2014 and he sat down next to me, and he goes, \u2018Uh, I moved to L.A. to be around people who are in it, and you\u2019re in it.\u2019 I was so nervous. I was like, \u2018Yeah, I know totally what you mean,\u2019 \u2026 And then I could not stop talking.\u201d<\/p>\n From there, Cooper shared every bit of knowledge he had about Prince, and it seemingly impressed \u201cthe Purple One,\u201d to the point that the \u201c1999\u201d singer consulted the CNN personality when the U.S. economy crashed in 2007 and 2008. Right before Prince played the Gansevoort Hotel, Cooper told Howard Stern<\/strong><\/a> that \u201cone of his people came over to me and said, \u2018Prince would like you to stay afterward because he\u2019d like to talk to you about the financial crisis.’\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFirst of all, I know nothing about the financial crisis. I\u2019m the last person to give financial advice,\u201d said Cooper. \u201cI was like, \u2018Uh, OK. Yeah, sure.\u2019\u201d But Prince didn\u2019t take the stage until 1 a.m., and Cooper was working the next day. \u201cHe kept playing and playing. I finally went to one of his people and was like, \u2018I have to work at like 6 a.m. tomorrow. I can\u2019t stay to talk about the financial crisis,’\u201d said Cooper.<\/p>\n Apparently, Prince was so taken by Cooper that he would constantly invite the news anchor to parties to see him play. But Cooper\u2019s career often got in the way. \u201cI felt like such a nerd saying, \u2018I actually have a show at night. I can\u2019t miss it for a party.\u2019 And then finally \u2026 I went and it was incredible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Prince was found dead in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota, on April 21, 2016. The 57-year-old music icon passed away due to an accidental fentanyl overdose.<\/p>\n
