Meta is preparing to announce a generative AI chatbot, called \u201cGen AI Personas\u201d internally, aimed at younger users, according to The Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>. Reportedly set to launch during the company\u2019s Meta Connect event<\/a> that starts Wednesday, they would come in multiple \u201cpersonas\u201d geared towards engaging young users with more colorful behavior, following ChatGPT\u2019s rise over the last year as one of the fastest-growing apps ever. Similar, but more generally targeted, Meta chatbot personas have already been reportedly tested on Instagram<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n According to internal chats the Journal<\/em> viewed, the company has tested a \u201csassy robot\u201d persona inspired by Bender from Futurama <\/em>and an overly curious \u201cAlvin the Alien\u201d that one employee worried could imply the bot was made to gather personal information. A particularly problematic chatbot reportedly told a Meta employee, \u201cWhen you\u2019re with a girl, it\u2019s all about the experience. And if she\u2019s barfing on you, that\u2019s definitely an experience.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Meta means to create \u201cdozens\u201d of these bots, writes the Journal,<\/em> and has even done some work on a chatbot creation tool to enable celebrities to make their own chatbots for their fans. There may also be some more geared towards productivity, able to help with \u201ccoding and other tasks,\u201d according to the article.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Journal<\/em> quotes former Snap and Instagram executive Meghana Dhar as saying chatbots don\u2019t \u201cscream Gen Z to me, but definitely Gen Z is much more comfortable\u201d with newer technology. She added that Meta\u2019s goal with the chatbots, as always with new products, is to keep them engaged for longer so it has \u201cincreased opportunity to serve them ads.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
