Shakira<\/strong><\/a> was proud of her post-split song<\/a> \u201cBzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,\u201d but members of her record label were wary about her lyrical choices.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I did that session, people on my team were saying, \u2018Please change this. Don\u2019t even think about coming out with those lyrics.\u2019 And I said, \u2018Why not?\u2019 I\u2019m not a diplomat in the United Nations. I\u2019m an artist, and I have the right to work on my emotions through my music,\u2019\u201d Shakira, 46, told Billboard<\/a> in a profile published on Thursday, September 21. \u201cIt\u2019s my catharsis and my therapy, but it\u2019s also the therapy of many people. I know I\u2019m the voice of many people<\/a>, and I\u2019m not being pretentious, just realistic.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cI lend my voice to many women, who maybe also wanted to say the same things I said and perhaps haven\u2019t had the validation to do so. I think songs like the Bizarrap<\/strong> session or like the one I did with Karol [G]<\/strong><\/a> have given many women strength, self-empowerment, self-confidence and also the backing to express and say what they need to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shakira dropped \u201cBzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,\u201d a collaboration with DJ Bizarrap, in January. The lyrics immediately reminded many fans<\/a> about Shakira\u2019s split from Gerard Piqu\u00e9<\/strong> <\/a>and his new romance<\/a> with Clara Chia Marti<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Two months later, she revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/i><\/a> that writing the \u201canthem\u201d was crucial in helping her move on<\/a> from the \u201cvery rough year after [the] separation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shakira and Piqu\u00e9 were together for 12 years, during which they welcomed sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8<\/a>. The duo confirmed in June 2022 that they called it quits<\/a> but that their kids\u2019 well-being remained their primary focus.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy priority was my home, my family. I believed in \u2018till death do us part.\u2019 I believed that dream, and I had that dream for myself, for my children,\u201d Shakira confessed to Billboard about the demise of her decades-long relationship<\/a>. \u201cMy parents have been together, I don\u2019t know, 50 years, and they love each other like the first day, with a love that\u2019s unique and unrepeatable. \u2026 And it has always been my example.
