Milton Johnson<\/strong> and Lydia Velez Gonzalez<\/strong> were the ultimate nerd couple from the moment they bonded<\/a> over sedimentary rocks in the Love Is Blind<\/i> <\/a>pods.<\/p>\n \u201cI think [what] it really just comes down to is our values were the same,\u201d Milton, 25, exclusively told Us Weekly <\/i>ahead of the season 5 premiere<\/a> of the Netflix dating show. \u201cWe had the same morals, we wanted the same things out of life. From day one, it just kind of felt like a hit, just felt like a match. So, we just wanted to really pursue that and see where it could take us.\u201d<\/p>\n Milton and Lydia, 32, immediately connected inside the Houston, Texas, pods<\/a> thanks to their similar careers. Lydia is a geologist, which piqued Milton\u2019s interest as he is employed as an engineer in the oil and energy industry and often works with rocks.<\/p>\n While Milton was smitten from the get-go, Lydia pumped the brakes after learning that they had a seven-year age gap. At the same time, she was involved in a pod love triangle with Izzy Zapata<\/strong> and Stacy Snyder<\/strong> before Izzy, 31, ultimately broke things off in the first episode.<\/p>\n \u201cIzzy cut me off and it sucks; it\u2019s s\u2014ty [since] he really didn\u2019t give me a reason, but I know I have to pick up myself rub my back and continue and go on,\u201d Lydia tearfully recalled in a confessional<\/a> during episode 2.<\/p>\n Moving on meant continuing to pursue her connection with Milton.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the thing that I liked most about Lydia is [that] we\u2019re so similar in a lot of different ways<\/a> when it comes to what industry we work in and we\u2019re both born on islands, but when it comes to our emotional intelligence and being vulnerable, we\u2019re on the complete opposite end of the spectrum,\u201d Milton explained to Us<\/i>. \u201cAnd that\u2019s something I really value because there\u2019s a part of me that understands like, \u2018Hey, maybe this is abnormal. Maybe I am a little bit too emotionally reserved.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Milton confirmed that Lydia is on the \u201cwhole opposite end of that spectrum\u201d in terms of processing her feelings, which fans saw in the second episode during their \u201cbeach\u201d date when they discussed future family plans.<\/p>\n \u201cI [was] like, \u2018Surely there\u2019s a middle ground<\/a> that we need to meet.\u2019 So, I think that really just drew me toward her,\u201d he told Us <\/i>earlier this month. \u201cAnd then after the pods, just like any relationship, there\u2019s work [you need to put in to maintain the bond].\u201d<\/p>\n
