HBO Max\u2019s The Sex Lives of College Girls<\/em><\/a> was renewed for a third season in December 2022.<\/p>\n The teen-comedy drama \u2014 cocreated by Mindy Kaling<\/strong><\/a> and Justin Noble<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 follows college roommates Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet<\/strong><\/a>), Bela (Amrit Kaur<\/strong><\/a>), Leighton (Rene\u00e9 Rapp<\/strong>) and Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott<\/strong>) on their adventures at the fictional Essex College in Vermont.<\/p>\n \u201cMindy Kaling and Justin Noble continue to brilliantly capture the college experience<\/a> in the most entertaining and relatable way,\u201d said Suzanna Makkos<\/strong>, executive vice president of original comedy and adult animation at HBO Max, in a statement announcing the third installment. \u201cThis series is the perfect balance of comedy, sex, curiosity and chaos, and we can\u2019t wait to see what the next season brings.\u201d<\/p>\n The series \u2014 dubbed a \u201cmodern day Friends<\/em>\u201d by The Guardian<\/em><\/a> in January 2023 \u2014 premiered in November 2021. Kaling and Noble conducted field research before beginning the project, visiting universities across the East Coast and interviewing students about their views on sex.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s just such a different perception of what a sex life is<\/a> to an 18, 19, 20-year-old girl now in an extraordinary way. We want[ed] our show to be in that realm of sex positivity,\u201d Noble told Bustle<\/em><\/a> in November 2021.<\/p>\n Kaling added that she wanted the series to depict sex as being both fun and awkward at times.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not the successful<\/em> sex lives of college girls,\u201d the Office<\/em> alum<\/a> explained. \u201cBut I think the reason why it wasn\u2019t just the romantic lives of college girls is that they come to college and \u2026 yeah, they want to have a sexual awakening.\u201d<\/p>\n Season 2 saw the SLOCG<\/em> foursome enduring bumps in the road in their friendships<\/a> with one another. In December 2022, Noble told Variety<\/em> <\/a>that the question of sophomore year living arrangements will loom large in season 3.<\/p>\n
