Gisele<\/strong> B\u00fcndchen<\/strong><\/a> is reaping the benefits of sobriety.<\/p>\n

The Brazilian supermodel, 43, recently opened up to Vanity Fair<\/span><\/i><\/a> about her journey with alcohol and how giving it up has changed her life for the better.<\/p>\n

\u201dSometimes, we can get so disconnected from our bodies because we are running away from ourselves, so we just keep adding more things for us to do,\u201d she told the magazine. \u201cGive me anything to eat, give me anything to drink. You\u2019re just in this mode.\u201d<\/p>\n

B\u00fcndchen \u2014 who recently divorced her husband of 13 years, former NFL quarterback Tom Brady<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 said that ignoring the social pressure to drink alcohol played a major role in her newfound sobriety.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight after I turned 40, actually, I felt a huge difference between when I had the glass of wine and when I didn\u2019t have the glass of wine,\u201d the former Victoria\u2019s Secret model explained. \u201cIt\u2019s socially accepted to have a glass of wine. And people even say, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s healthy for you.\u2019 Well, it is not healthy for me. If you want to ask of your body what I ask of my body, which is a lot, I can\u2019t be having all these things (alcohol, caffeine) because they add up.\u201d<\/p>\n

After deciding to give up alcohol for good two years ago, B\u00fcndchen said she \u201cimmediately\u201d felt a difference in her overall well-being.<\/p>\n

\u201cI became more clear,\u201d she explained. \u201cI felt a bit more foggy before. Now I\u2019m very sharp and very present and I notice things that I didn\u2019t notice before,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen I\u2019m not drinking, I\u2019m sleeping much better. You have to be loving to yourself. You ask a lot of your body, you\u2019ve got to do a reset. You have got to take care of this only vehicle you got, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to other self-care practices \u2014 B\u00fcndchen notes meditation as an important part of her routine \u2014 the model said that while mothers are often shamed for taking time for themselves, it benefits your family in the long run.<\/p>\n
