Former Daredevil<\/em> showrunner Steven DeKnight<\/strong> has theories about why the show\u2019s upcoming revival has been renamed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Marvel\u2019s original Daredevil<\/em> series first premiered in 2015 on Netflix and ran for three seasons before getting canceled in 2018. In July 2022, Disney\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u2014 which owns Marvel \u2014 removed the show from its former streaming service and green-lit a sequel for Disney+ titled Daredevil: Born Again<\/em>. The revived series is set to feature major elements from its predecessor including Charlie Cox<\/strong><\/a> as lead character Matthew Murdock.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

DeKnight, who penned the OG series but won\u2019t be involved in the new show, slammed Disney on Tuesday, September 19, for what he claims are \u201ccorporate shenanigans.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to first season,\u201d DeKnight wrote via X (formerly known as Twitter)<\/a> on Monday. \u201cNeeds to be addressed by all the guild\/unions and crushed!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHollywood came to a standstill amid the joint WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike \u2014 but not every TV show has stopped filming. In July 2023, SAG-AFTRA authorized a strike after the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) did not address any of their concerns regarding fair wages, the use of artificial intelligence and more [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

DeKnight noted that from what he can \u201cunderstand\u201d<\/a> he isn\u2019t \u201cgoing to see a penny from Daredevil: Born Again<\/em>\u201d because the additional \u201cBorn Again\u201d in the show\u2019s title means Disney can \u201cclaim it\u2019s a completely different show<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He added: \u201cYou know, with the exact same two lead actors (who I love!) playing Daredevil and [William] Fisk [played by Vincent D\u2019Onofrio<\/strong>].\u201d<\/p>\n

DeKnight\u2019s claims were in response to a tweet from a Daredevil<\/em> employee who alleged<\/a> that the new series is \u201cback to season one IATSE contract terms,\u201d calling the process a \u201cf\u2014king scam.\u201d They claimed that Disney officially canceled the series \u201conce the crew got a full raise and holiday\/vacation pay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite DeKnight\u2019s qualms with Disney\u2019s alleged business procedures surrounding Born Again<\/em>, the writer insisted he has \u201czero issue\u201d with the new series and wants to see it succeed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTo be clear, I can\u2019t wait to see Charlie Cox and the amazing @vincentdonofrio reprise their iconic [roles],\u201d\u00a0he wrote via X on Monday. \u201cBut to claim this is a complete reboot and you don\u2019t have to pay the original creatives is some corporate shenanigans, to say the least.\u201d<\/p>\n
