Volvo\u2019s last diesel car will roll off the line \u201cby early 2024,\u201d the company said<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The writing\u2019s been on the wall for several years. As far back as 2017, the Geely<\/a>-owned automaker indicated<\/a> it would wrap up production of diesel cars by around now.<\/p>\n

The automaker followed up four years later, when it declared it would exclusively sell<\/a> electric vehicles by 2030.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly four years ago, the diesel engine was our bread and butter in Europe, as was the case for most other car makers,\u201d Volvo said in a statement Tuesday. Going forward, the automaker stated it is \u201cno longer spending a single krona of our R&D budget on developing new internal combustion engines.\u201d<\/p>\n
