Christina Milian wants you to know that there is no beef with Jennifer Lopez. Milian co-wrote J Lo’s hit single “Play,” a song originally meant for her own debut album. \u201cHands down, she killed it. She\u2019s so good. I love that song,\u201d the singer said while promoting her partnership with Lysol Air Sanitizer.<\/b> \u201cAnd I couldn\u2019t believe at 19 years old I wrote a song for J.Lo.\u201d Milian revealed that she wrote \u201cPlay\u201d the same week she wrote her debut single, \u201cAM to PM,\u201d during songwriting camps in Sweden with Bloodshy & Avant.<\/p>\n
Milian explained that the song (“Play) came to her after a night of partying, and she wrote it in about 15 minutes. Although Christina says she was proud of the song, she favored \u201cAM to PM\u201d and figured that her label at the time wouldn\u2019t want to include \u201ctwo party songs\u201d on her debut album.<\/p>\n
That’s when Tommy Motorola heard the song, and immediately gave it to Lopez.<\/p>\n
Still, even today, online speculation of a feud persists where fans often call out J Lo for leaving Milian\u2019s vocals on the chorus of \u201cPlay\u201d and not giving her a feature credit on the song. \u201cIt\u2019s funny when people talk about this being kind of a thing about me singing on the song with Jennifer. I mean, I have background singers on some of my songs,\u201d Milian said. \u201cIt\u2019s no different than Michael Jackson having background singers on songs or Britney Spears. This is what music is made of. You want a blend of voices. It makes songs better, to me.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t need a feature credit,\u201d she insists. \u201cI\u2019m on the credits for whatever nature, as a writer and for singing backgrounds. There is credit for that. I\u2019m also just so happy that she did it because she\u2019s an icon, she\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n
