Hilarie Burton Morgan<\/strong><\/a> is convinced that One Tree Hill<\/em><\/a> and Outer Banks<\/em><\/a> exist in the same universe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the Monday, September 18, episode of the \u201cDrama Queens<\/a>\u201d podcast, Burton, 41, shared her theory that Cullen Moss\u2019<\/strong> OTH<\/em> character, Junk, grew up to become Deputy Shoupe<\/a> on Netflix\u2019s Outer Banks<\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI love Cullen\u2019s crossover into Outer Banks. Because I don\u2019t care that the characters have different names. In my mind, Junk is the cop in Outer Banks<\/em>,\u201d Burton quipped, to which cohost Bethany Joy Lenz <\/strong><\/a>agreed. \u201cGood for him, man, that\u2019s exactly where Junk should be right now. Just dealing with some meddling kids.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moss, 48, appeared on two other North Carolina-based shows before getting cast on Outer Banks<\/em>. After an appearance on season 6 of Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/em>, he landed the role of Junk on OTH<\/em>, one of Lucas\u2019 (Chad Michael Murray<\/strong><\/a>) River Court basketball pals. Years later, he joined the cast of Outer Banks<\/em> as Deputy Shoupe \u2014 an antagonist turned good-hearted cop who helps find the Pogues after they\u2019re reported missing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tReel talk! North Carolina may be known for its unmatched coastline, the Blue Ridge mountains and Cheerwine, but it\u2019s also the backdrop of some of your favorite movies and television shows. It wasn\u2019t always that way, however. The Tar Heel state \u2014 once home to celebrities including Julianne Moore, Zach Galifianakis and Michael C. Hall [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

North Carolina has been widely known for producing teen dramas since the 1990s, with Wilmington serving as the filming locations for One Tree Hill<\/em> and Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/em>. Four hours north is OBX, where Outer Banks<\/em> is based \u2014 even though the show films in Charleston, South Carolina.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the years, all three casts have opened up about the advantages of filming in the Carolinas, away from the craziness of Los Angeles or New York City. In March, Michelle Williams<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 who portrayed Jen Lindley on all six seasons of Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/em> \u2014 shared that the WB drama taught her \u201chow to be responsible<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt taught me how to get to work on time, it taught me how to prepare at night for the next day,\u201d Williams said in an appearance on Sunday Today With Willie Geist<\/em>. \u201cWe were in, like, a very sleepy Southern town, and the crew really felt like they looked out for us<\/a>. They knew how young we were and they kind of put, like, bumpers around us, just made sure that we were safe and taken care of, that I went to the dentist, things that didn\u2019t really come naturally to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Chase Stokes<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 who stars as John B on Outer Banks<\/em> \u2014 told Variety<\/em><\/a> in 2020 following the show\u2019s premiere that shooting in Charleston helped him connect to the world on screen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like it was a rare experience for all of us to kind of go to a set and have an opportunity to actually live in it, in a place that you know you\u2019re going to spend so much time in,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt was one of those things \u2026\u00a0 where we were allowed to sort of really dive into it before it happened.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Costar Jonathan Daviss<\/strong> echoed Stokes\u2019 sentiments, sharing that shooting down south<\/a> helped the cast bond in a different way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[Charleston] is really pretty, it\u2019s got like some gorgeous sunsets and sunrises,\u201d he said. \u201cI think the first day, we spent at the Chateau [John B\u2019s home and one of the show\u2019s main locations] to prepare for shooting together and we all watched the sunrise.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When posed with the question of what Carolinas-based show would win in a teen drama showdown, Stokes and Daviss stated that their series would come out on top \u2014 and that Moss would be on their side.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe was on Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/em> and One Tree Hill<\/em><\/a>. He\u2019s a double whammy,\u201d Stokes quipped to Variety<\/em>. \u201cBut here\u2019s the thing, Cullen would die in a firefight against us, in the best possible way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
