On Friday, days after roughly a dozen classified papers were discovered at former Vice President\u00a0Mike Pence<\/strong>\u2019s Indiana home, he said he takes \u201cfull responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cDuring the closing days of the administration, when materials were boxed and assembled, some of which were shipped to our personal residence, mistakes were made,\u201d Pence told Fox News on Friday\u2014his first comments since the document discovery on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe were not aware of it at the time until we did the review just a few short weeks ago,\u201d he added. \u201cBut I take full responsibility for it, and we\u2019re going to continue to support every appropriate inquiry into it.\u201d<\/p>\n The incident comes after a dripping discovery of documents at President\u00a0Joe Biden<\/strong>\u2019s Delaware home and former Washington, D.C. office.<\/p>\n After Biden\u2019s document revelations, Pence lambasted Biden, while praising the special counsel\u2019s appointment:\u00a0\u201cI can speak from personal experience about the\u00a0attention that ought to be paid to those materials<\/a>\u00a0when you\u2019re in office and after you leave office. And clearly, that did not take place in this case.\u201d\u00a0Pence also spoke to\u00a0Hugh Hewitt<\/strong> on his show about what he viewed as a \u201cdouble standard<\/a>\u201d regarding how Trump\u2019s and Biden\u2019s classified papers were discovered, adding, \u201cthere\u2019s an old saying in the Bible that what you sow, you reap.\u201d\u00a0Awkwardly for Pence, he is also suffering the consequences of his actions.<\/p>\n Former President Donald Trump came to his\u00a0former vice president\u2019s defense<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday on his Truth Social platform, writing: \u201cMike Pence is an innocent man. He never did anything knowingly dishonest in his life. Leave him alone!!!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n On January 22, Pence\u2019s attorney Greg Jacob<\/strong> wrote a letter to the National Archives and Records Administration explaining \u201cthe two boxes in which\u00a0a small number of papers<\/a>\u00a0appearing to bear classified markings had been found, and two separate boxes containing courtesy copies of Vice Presidential papers.\u201d He said a search had been conducted at Pence\u2019s residence on January 16. The letter emphasized Pence\u2019s voluntary cooperation, likely trying to make a sharp contrast with the messy back-and-forth battle it took to retrieve Trump\u2019s documents.<\/p>\n Days earlier, on January 18, Jacob wrote in a separate letter that \u201cVice President Pence was\u00a0unaware of the existence of sensitive or classified documents<\/a>\u00a0at his personal residence.\u201d He explained that Pence\u2019s place was searched \u201cfollowing press reports of classified documents at the personal home of President Biden, out of an abundance of caution.\u201d<\/p>\n The revelation has forced the GOP to toe a fine line, since leaders on both sides of the aisle have now had classified papers discovered in their homes; they are trying to distinguish between Biden and Pence while seemingly ignoring Trump altogether.<\/p>\n Sen.\u00a0Ted Cruz<\/strong>\u00a0(R-Texas) told Fox News that the Pence revelation was different from Biden\u2019s: \u201cOh look,\u00a0Mike Pence has explained where these came from<\/a>.\u201d He added that for Pence, it was \u201cinadvertent\u201d and a \u201cmistake,\u201d while Biden has given \u201czero explanation\u201d about why he had documents in his home and office.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
