\u201cCool for the Summer\u201d is still one of Demi Lovato<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s biggest bangers \u2014 and she recently revealed that her own life inspired the lyrics.<\/p>\n Lovato, 31, explained during an interview with Howard Stern<\/strong><\/a> that she wrote the song about hooking up with a woman before she publicly came out as bisexual. The relationship was \u201cnever public,\u201d but the woman was also famous \u2014 though Lovato wouldn\u2019t offer any further details about her identity.<\/p>\n When Stern, 69, asked whether the mystery paramour knows that \u201cCool for the Summer\u201d is about her, Lovato said that she doesn\u2019t. Because of her own current relationship, however, she has no plans to ID her ex. (Lovato has been dating Jutes<\/strong><\/a> since August 2022.)<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m in a relationship now<\/a> and I feel like that would be inappropriate,\u201d Lovato explained. \u201cI missed the moment. Should\u2019ve said it back then.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cCool for the Summer\u201d \u2014 which peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard<\/em> Hot 100 and is one of the tracks Lovato re-recorded for her Revamped<\/em> album<\/a> out this month \u2014 is about experimenting with a female lover and includes lyrics like, \u201cDon\u2019t be scared, \u2019cause I\u2019m your body type \/ Just something that we wanna try.\u201d<\/p>\n Two months after the song\u2019s release, Lovato hinted that the lyrics were based on \u201cpersonal experiences\u201d from her own life. \u201cI am not confirming and I\u2019m definitely not denying,\u201d she told British comedian Alan Carr<\/strong> in September 2015 when asked whether the track was about lesbianism. \u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything wrong with experimentation at all.\u201d<\/p>\n In March 2021, Lovato said that she identifies as pansexual<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m so fluid now \u2014 and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was super closeted off,\u201d she said during an interview on Joe Rogan<\/strong>\u2019s podcast. \u201cI heard someone call the LGBTQIA+ community the \u2018alphabet mafia,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018That\u2019s it. That\u2019s what I\u2019m going with.\u2019 I\u2019m part of the alphabet mafia<\/a> and proud.\u201d<\/p>\n Lovato went on to explain that she realized she might be attracted to women while watching the 1999 movie Cruel Intentions<\/em><\/a> \u2014 specifically the picnic scene featuring Selma Blair<\/strong><\/a> and Sarah Michelle Gellar<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI was like, \u2018Oh, I like that,\u2019\u201d Lovato recalled. \u201cBut I felt a lot of shame because growing up in Texas as a Christian, that\u2019s very frowned upon. Any attraction I had to a female at a young age, I shut it down before I even let myself process what I was feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n
