The truth behind the TV. More than a decade after their split, Laguna Beach<\/em><\/a> exes Kristin Cavallari<\/strong><\/a> and Stephen Colletti<\/strong><\/a> teamed up for their \u201cBack to the Beach\u201d podcast<\/a>, which details their time on the MTV reality show.<\/p>\n The series, which aired from September 2004 to November 2006, followed the lives of several high school students<\/a> at California\u2019s Laguna Beach High School, including Cavallari and Colletti as well as Lauren Conrad<\/strong><\/a>, Jason Wahler<\/strong><\/a> and Lo Bosworth<\/strong><\/a>. For their podcast, Cavallari and Colletti rewatch old episodes of the show and reveal what was really happening behind the scenes \u2014 and what didn\u2019t make it to air.<\/p>\n For starters, the duo clarified that they weren\u2019t actually close friends with everyone who was on the show. \u201cWe knew who everybody was,\u201d the Very Cavallari<\/em> alum explained<\/a> during the \u201cBack to the Beach\u201d welcome episode on July 19. \u201cBut we\u2019re not hanging out.\u201d<\/p>\n Colletti echoed that sentiment, explaining that many of the scenarios the teens found themselves in would not have happened without the intervention \u2014 and budget \u2014 of MTV. \u201cFor example, in the first episode, this hotel party,\u201d the former One Tree Hill<\/em><\/a> actor explained. \u201cWe did not have hotel suite parties where somebody was just, like, throwing out a credit card, booking a suite.\u201d<\/p>\n The Hit the Floor<\/em> alum also noted that his romance with Cavallari didn\u2019t play out in real life the way that it did on the show. The pair, who dated off and on in high school, seemingly split because of Colletti\u2019s involvement with Conrad, but Colletti said he was \u201cuncomfortable\u201d with the way the series portrayed the alleged love triangle<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe dated for real my sophomore year, your junior year,\u201d Cavallari explained on the podcast. \u201cAnd we were together for, I think, a little over a year.
