Yellowstone<\/em><\/a> fans were still holding out hope that Kevin Costner<\/strong><\/a> would come back for a few episodes to wrap up his storyline \u2014 but he says he\u2019s already taken John Dutton to the train station.<\/p>\n

Costner, 68, said he \u201cconcluded his work\u201d on Yellowstone<\/em> last year in court documents related to his child support battle with estranged wife Christine Baumgartner<\/strong><\/a>. The first half of season 5 wrapped up in January on a cliffhanger, with Jamie (Wes Bentley<\/strong><\/a>) calling for his dad\u2019s impeachment. John, meanwhile, seemed ready to team up with Beth (Kelly Reilly<\/strong><\/a>) to have Jamie murdered. That leaves a lot of plot left for John, but according to Costner\u2019s legal team, he \u201cis not involved in any future episodes\u201d of the show.<\/p>\n

The fifth season of Yellowstone<\/em><\/a> was always set to air in two parts, with the second half originally scheduled to premiere this summer. That deadline came and went, however, amid reports that Costner was on the outs<\/a> with showrunner Taylor Sheridan<\/strong><\/a> and didn\u2019t want to film additional episodes.<\/p>\n

In May, Paramount Network confirmed that Yellowstone<\/em> will end<\/a> with the second half of season 5. A spokesperson said the new episodes would start airing in November, but that is now unlikely to happen as the writers\u2019 and actors\u2019 unions remain on strike<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite the delays, a June profile of Sheridan, 53, in The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> stated that there were \u201congoing discussions to try to convince Costner to film a few scenes to wrap his character,\u201d but the scripts were not finished.<\/p>\n

Sheridan, meanwhile, said he was \u201cdisappointed\u201d by Costner\u2019s decision to leave the series, though he noted John Dutton might not have survived for all of the final episodes anyway. \u201cIt truncates the closure of his character,\u201d Sheridan said. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t alter it, but it truncates it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tYellowstone is known for its over-the-top plot lines and complicated family drama, but the show\u2019s cast and crew has also been involved in plenty of offscreen controversy over the years. Since the Paramount Network series premiered in June 2018, actors along with cocreator Taylor Sheridan have fended off criticism that the show is written with [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In his testimony at the child support hearing, Costner claimed he discussed participating in a sixth season of Yellowstone<\/em> with the show\u2019s producers, but negotiations failed. \u201cThere were issues about creative,\u201d he said on Friday, September 1, according to a report from Fox News. \u201cI tried to break the log jam. They walked away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Costner went on to say that splitting season 5 into two parts interfered with his plans to work on Horizon<\/em><\/a>, a four-part film series that he is directing. \u201cI was going to do my movie Horizon<\/em><\/a> and leave that show, do my movie, then do [the second half],\u201d he reportedly said. \u201cA show I was only doing once a year I was now doing twice.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also claimed he was offered $24 million to film seasons 5, 6 and 7 before Paramount Network pulled the plug on Yellowstone<\/em>.<\/p>\n
