<\/em>(seemingly late last month) in a new interview that went public on Wednesday, September 6.<\/p>\n\u201cIt caused a lot of frustration in our marriage,\u201d Jill said of filming her family\u2019s erstwhile reality series.<\/p>\n

She described: \u201cI\u2019d be like, \u2018I hear you, I feel you, I also don\u2019t want to do whatever it is they\u2019re asking us to do either.’\u201d <\/p>\n
According to Jill, she would then tell husband Derick: \u201c\u2018But we have to.’\u201d<\/p>\nLook out, Michelle and Jim Bob! In the memoir, the couple express how they wanted to spend time on their marriage after tying the knot in 2014.<\/p>\nInstead of being able to focus upon their family, they continued filming for 20 hours a week.<\/p>\n

Among other things, they drilled into her head the notion that she must always honor and obey her parents. That obviously did a lot of lasting harm.<\/p>\n
It also meant that Jill, as an adult, could have walked away from reality TV \u2026 but struggled to say \u201cno\u201d to her awful dad.<\/p>\nJill Duggar works in her garden in August of 2023. (Photo Credit: Instagram)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cIt definitely got between us,\u201d Jill reflected to People<\/em> of how the show harmed her marriage to Derick.<\/p>\n\u201cNo matter your age,\u201d she described the cult\u2019s teachings, \u201cyou are to obey your parents\u2019 wishes.\u201d Yikes!<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd,\u201d Jill continued, \u201cyou even have to ask them for their blessing for any major moment in your life.\u201d<\/p>\nJill Duggar breaks down here while recounting her interview with Megyn Kelly. Thinking back, she added: \u201cWe were dealing with this a lot when we were trying to make decisions for our family.\u201d That sounds miserable.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd,\u201d Jill explained, \u201cwe were really wrestling back and forth with it.\u201d<\/p>\nDerick Dillard and Jill Duggar have cut ties with Jim Bob. \u201cWhenever we were at odds with what her dad thought we should be doing with filming,\u201d he described, \u201che would say things that would be very damaging.\u201d<\/p>\n
Derick detailed: \u201cHe would weaponize the relationship and say, \u2018Is this you Jill, or is this you, Derek? Are you leading your wife astray and doing things that are not supportive of marriage?\u2019 And I think that was a red flag.\u201d<\/p>\nJill and Derick pose outside a courthouse. She and Derick were arguing about the show. At that time, Jill sometimes felt like she had to pick sides \u2014 her husband or her father.<\/p>\n
Over time, she and Derick also clashed with Jim Bob over their pay \u2014 or lack thereof \u2014 for Counting On<\/em>. He apparently sold the idea to his adult children that promoting a sanitized version of their cult lifestyle on camera was a form of ministry.<\/p>\nJill Duggar uploaded this photo of herself and her husband in order to celebrate the latter\u2019s birthday in 2022. (Instagram)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cWhen I saw how it was affecting our marriage, I think that was another wake-up call for me,\u201d Jill explained. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt was like, okay, we need to either fight this battle together, or it\u2019s going to rip us apart,\u201d she recalled reasoning.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo yeah,\u201d Jill concluded. \u201cWe had to join forces at that point.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
