The Summer I Turned Pretty<\/em><\/a> is based on a three-book series \u2014 but that doesn\u2019t mean showrunner Jenny Han<\/strong><\/a> will stop there.<\/p>\n

Vernon Sanders<\/strong>, who is the head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, hinted at how the hit Prime Video series could continue to grow.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI will say stay tuned, but Jenny\u2019s got some exciting surprises. So we\u2019re thrilled about a season 3, and she\u2019s got a vision for more,\u201d Sanders told Deadline<\/a> during an interview on Tuesday, September 5. \u201cThis show is going to continue to be a huge centerpiece for us, and we absolutely have plans to continue building it. Jenny\u2019s got great vision for where she wants to go with all of it, but we\u2019re already hard at work developing complementary pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Summer I Turned Pretty<\/em>, which is based on books written by Han, 43, focuses on a love triangle between Belly (Lola Tung<\/strong><\/a>), Conrad (Christopher Briney<\/strong><\/a>) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno<\/strong><\/a>). Season 2 pulled heavy inspiration from It\u2019s Not Summer Without You<\/em>, which ends with Belly choosing Jeremiah after closing the door<\/a> on a future with Conrad.<\/p>\n

Prime Video picked up the series for a third season, and it will presumably include key moments from the We\u2019ll Always Have Summer<\/em> novel<\/a>. Han, however, surprised fans when she hinted at telling a different story on screen.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI really had to weigh what the fans are expecting with where the show is going creatively and find that balance,\u201d she told Variety<\/em> in June 2022 about adapting the book for Prime Video. \u201cMy priority has always been that I want fans of the book to feel really satisfied by the story we\u2019re telling, but also for them to know that this is an adaptation in a new medium, so it\u2019s not going to be exactly the same. I think those are sort of the two things that are always in my head.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tFans have really high expectations about how The Summer I Turned Pretty will incorporate crucial book moments in season 3 \u2014 and so does Us. The hit Prime Video show, based on a book series of the same name by showrunner Jenny Han, focuses on a love triangle between Belly (Lola Tung), Conrad (Christopher Briney) [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Han added: \u201cI don\u2019t want to spoil too much but the books have been out for a while. You never know what could happen with the show. I was open minded going into it. I was considering a lot of different possibilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Casalegno, 24, later noted that he has not ruled out a new outcome for the show\u2019s endgame<\/a> couple. \u201cI do feel like there\u2019s a strong chance that that\u2019s a possibility,\u201d he exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in July when asked if season 3 could stray from events in the book series.<\/p>\n

During Tuesday\u2019s interview, Sanders praised Han for bringing her vision to life.<\/a><\/p>\n
