Apple has struck a deal with the chip design company Arm that goes past 2040, as reported by Reuters<\/em><\/a>. A disclosure noting the arrangement appeared in new documents Arm filed as part of its planned IPO.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The statement about the deal doesn\u2019t have much additional detail. \u201cWe have entered into a new long-term agreement with Apple that extends beyond 2040, continuing our longstanding relationship of collaboration with Apple and Apple\u2019s access to the Arm architecture,\u201d Arm said in the document<\/a>. But given how much Apple relies on Arm\u2019s designs for the custom chips powering its most popular and profitable products, like the iPhone, Mac, iPad, and Apple Watch, in addition to the upcoming Vision Pro, it signals that Apple plans to continue utilizing Arm\u2019s technology platform for a very long time to come.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n It\u2019s not just Apple that has a long-term interest in Arm. In its documents, Arm also said that some major technology companies, including AMD, Apple, Google, Intel, Nvidia, Samsung, and TSMC, have \u201cindicated an interest\u201d in buying \u201cup to an aggregate\u201d of $735 million in Arm shares. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Arm\u2019s IPO<\/a> follows Nvidia\u2019s failed attempt to buy it from parent company SoftBank. That deal was announced in 2020<\/a> but scrapped in 2022<\/a> due to \u201csignificant regulatory challenges,\u201d as it faced intense scrutiny from\u00a0UK<\/a>,\u00a0EU<\/a>, and\u00a0US<\/a>\u00a0regulators.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
