Jared Fields<\/strong><\/a> has sparked controversy inside the\u00a0Big Brother\u00a0<\/i><\/a>season 25 house after he referred to fellow contestant America Lopez<\/strong><\/a> as the R-word.<\/p>\n

Jared, 25, is the current Head of Household<\/a> and was caught talking strategies with his allies on the live feeds on Friday, September 1. Jared was trying to express how detrimental it would be for his gameplay if his target America, 27, won the Power of Veto and kept herself safe from eviction. In his speech, fans heard him call America the R-word.<\/p>\n

After Jared dropped the offensive slur, many\u00a0Big Brother\u00a0<\/i>fans implored CBS via social media to remove him from the game. Production has yet to address the controversy. (The next episode airs on CBS on Sunday, September 23, at 8 p.m. ET.)<\/p>\n

Jared later told Cory Wurtenberger<\/strong> <\/a>\u2014 who is in a showmance<\/a> with America \u2014 that he regretted the name-calling. \u201cI don\u2019t think she\u2019s the R-word. I slipped up,\u201d Jared,\u00a0Survivor\u00a0<\/i>legend Cirie Fields<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 son, said on the live feeds on Saturday, September 2, per social media<\/a> recordings. \u201cObviously, I was angry about it [and] I\u2019m willing to admit that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tControversies are nothing new for Big Brother. The show has been criticized for racism and discrimination over the years, making major waves with an incident that occurred in season 15. During the 2013 season, Aaryn Gries referred to Asian people as \u201csquinty-eyed,\u201d called her Black roommate Candice Stewart \u201cAunt Jemima\u201d and asked her Korean housemate\u00a0Helen [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the clip, Jared further alluded that he would be ready to turn on a competitor \u201cthe moment that somebody does not benefit my game.\u201d The feeds, which air on Pluto TV, cut off shortly after Jared\u2019s attempted explanation.<\/p>\n

While it is not yet known if Jared will be expelled from\u00a0Big Brother<\/i>, production previously set a precedent earlier this season when Luke Valentine<\/strong> <\/a>was caught saying the N-word in conversation<\/a> with Cory, 21, Jared and Hisam Goueli<\/strong> <\/a>on August 9. While Jared, the only Black man in the house<\/a>, told Luke, 30, that he didn\u2019t care about the aforementioned slur, CBS removed him from the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuke violated the\u00a0BIG BROTHER<\/i>\u00a0code of conduct and there is zero tolerance in the house for using a racial slur,\u201d the network and producers told\u00a0Us Weekly<\/i>\u00a0in a statement last month. \u201cHe has been removed from the house<\/a>. His departure will be addressed in Thursday night\u2019s show.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSince Big Brother first aired in July 2000, a handful of contestants have left the game\u00a0early for various reasons. Due to the show\u2019s live feeds, Big Brother fans are often aware that a houseguest has left the game before an official announcement is made. Prior to Paloma Aguilar\u2019s self-eviction from Big Brother 24 being confirmed [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Luke has since returned home and has been vocal about his early dismissal. \u201cI\u2019m not upset at the production. Their hands were tied. They had to make a sacrifice,\u201d he said during an Instagram Live later in August<\/a>. \u201cI understand why. It is upsetting. I think they made the wrong decision. I think a slap on the wrist would have been a much better thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
