The \u2018My Heart Will Go On\u2019 singer, 55, revealed her diagnosis in December, which forced her to pull the plug on her \u2018Courage World Tour\u2019, and her older sibling Claudette Dion, 74, has now said she is devastated there seems little she and the singer\u2019s family can do to help her \u201cstrong\u201d sister or \u201calleviate her pain\u201d.<\/p>\n
Claudette told HELLO! Canada: \u201cShe\u2019s doing everything to recover. She\u2019s a strong woman. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an illness we know so little about. There are spasms \u2013 they\u2019re impossible to control. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou know who people often jump up in the night because of a cramp in the leg or the calf? It\u2019s a bit like that, but in all muscles. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cThere\u2019s little we can do to support her, to alleviate her pain.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nShe added mum-of-three Celine\u2019s family is \u201ccrossing our fingers that researchers will find a remedy for this awful illness\u201d. <\/p>\n
\nStiff person syndrome is a rare, progressive neurological disorder that can cause stiff muscles in the torso, arms and legs \u2013 and affects about one in a million people. <\/p>\n
\nCeline\u2019s other sister Linda and her husband have moved into the singer\u2019s home in Las Vegas to care for her, and Claudette added: \u201cIt\u2019s comforting for us all (to have them near Celine.)\u201d <\/p>\n
\nClaudette has previously revealed that despite working with \u201cthe top researchers in the field\u201d, Grammy-winning Celine has seen little improvement in her health. <\/p>\n
\nShe told Le Journal de Montreal: \u201cWe can\u2019t find any medicine that works, but having hope is important.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nClaudette said Celine cancelling her \u2018Courage\u2019 tour was a necessary move for her chances of rehabilitation. <\/p>\n
\nShe added about the singer \u2013 whose music producer husband Ren\u00e9 Ang\u00e9lil, 73, died in 2016 after they were married for 22 years: \u201cI honestly think that she mostly needs to rest. She always goes above and beyond, she always tries to be the best and top of her game. At one point, your heart and your body are trying to tell you something. It\u2019s important to listen to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
