Maci Bookout<\/strong> <\/a>was distraught upon learning ex Ryan Edwards<\/strong> <\/a>had overdosed.<\/p>\n

In a Wednesday, August 30, teaser for an upcoming episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter<\/em>, Maci, 32, becomes emotional when recalling the harrowing incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I found out that Ryan had overdosed, that\u2019s truly the first time I was genuinely scared,\u201d she shares as the camera cuts to a serious-looking conversation between Maci and her 15-year-old son, Bentley, whom she shares with Ryan, 35. While the brief clip doesn\u2019t feature Maci and Bentley talking, it shows the mother and son looking serious.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so hard,\u201d she cries in a confessional.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTeen Mom fans have watched Maci Bookout and Ryan Edwards\u2019 drama play out for more than a decade. The pair\u2019s rocky relationship was first documented on season 1 of 16 and Pregnant in 2009. After welcoming son Bentley in October 2008, the duo were briefly engaged in 2009 before calling it quits for good. Bookout [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While the teaser doesn\u2019t reveal the timeline of Ryan\u2019s overdose, the Tennessee native was found \u201cunconscious and unresponsive\u201d in the driver\u2019s seat of his truck<\/a> in April, per the arrest affidavit obtained by Us Weekly<\/em> at the time. Ryan \u2014 who had already been arrested twice at the beginning of 2023 \u2014 was booked for simple possession of a controlled substance and a DUI following the accident, during which \u201cthe vehicle\u2019s front driver\u2019s side tire hit the curb on the center median where the vehicle then came to a stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ryan was found with a bag containing a \u201ccrystal type substance,\u201d the report stated, as well as a \u201csecond small bag of what appeared to be a blue powder.\u201d When he arrived at the hospital, he \u201cadvised he snorted a powder before waking up in the back of an ambulance.\u201d (According to the report, Ryan was treated with Narcan \u2014 an over-the-counter medication that \u201crapidly reverses an opioid overdose,\u201d per the National Institutes of Health<\/a> \u2014 and \u201ceventually regained consciousness.\u201d)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tRyan Edwards, who struggles with substance abuse, has been arrested for drug possession multiple times. The Teen Mom OG star shares son Bentley with his ex Maci Bookout. MTV cameras have followed the twosome since Bookout\u2019s 16 and Pregnant episode aired in 2009. After the pair split, Bookout married husband Taylor McKinney in 2016. Later that month, Ryan was sentenced to nearly one year in jail after pleading guilty to harassing wife Mackenzie Edwards<\/strong><\/a> earlier that year. (Mackenzie \u2014 who shares 8-year-old son Jagger and 5-year-old daughter Stella with Ryan \u2014 filed for divorce<\/a> in February.)<\/p>\n

During Ryan\u2019s stint in jail, Maci exclusively told Us<\/em> that his bond with Bentley had actually grown stronger<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think as crazy as it is, because he is in jail right now, he shows up and communicates with Bentley, I think, more consistently now than he ever has, which is mind-blowing,\u201d she shared in July, ahead of the season 2 premiere of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter<\/em>. \u201cIt makes me feel good as the mom to just know that like, although Ryan made really bad decisions and is paying the consequences for them, I\u2019m glad to see that that hasn\u2019t stopped him from showing up or, like, calling and communicating because in the past that would\u2019ve halted everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, Abraham has been criticized for just how mature her daughter is. The Ex on the Beach star faced backlash after she\u00a0shared a video of Sophia dancing [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ryan was released from jail and into a halfway house that same month \u2014 and he seems to be keeping up with his relationship with Bentley.<\/p>\n

On August 27, Bentley shared a photo<\/a> posing with his father, stepdad Taylor McKinney<\/strong> <\/a>and grandfather Larry Edwards<\/strong> on the golf course.<\/p>\n
