According to former Desperate Housewives<\/em><\/a> writer Patty Lin<\/a><\/strong>, there was just as much drama in the writers room as there was on Wisteria Lane.<\/p>\n

Lin detailed her stint working for the ABC drama in her new book, End Credits: How I Broke Up With Hollywood,<\/em> released on Tuesday, August 29.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe writers weren\u2019t barred from the set, but we weren\u2019t exactly welcome. Usually we\u2019d only see the cast at table reads, where we\u2019d sit quietly in the back and try not to make eye contact with Teri Hatcher<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d Lin wrote.<\/p>\n

Desperate Housewives<\/em>, which also starred Felicity Huffman<\/a>, Marcia Cross <\/a><\/strong>and Eva Longoria<\/strong>,<\/a> was created by Marc Cherry<\/strong><\/a> in 2004. Lin worked on the first season and alleged that she experienced \u201covert racism\u201d at the hands of Cherry.<\/p>\n

The Marc Cherry-created mystery comedy-drama made its debut on ABC October 3, 2004, with main cast members Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer), Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo), Marcia Cross (Bree Van de Kamp) and Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis) [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cOne day at lunch, the topic of Margaret Cho<\/strong><\/a> came up, and someone mentioned All-American Girl<\/em>, Cho\u2019s short-lived sitcom about a Korean American family. Marc turned to me and said, \u2018Patty, you should write a show like that.\u2019 I love Margaret Cho, but please don\u2019t lump us together just because we\u2019re both Asian women in show business,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Lin claimed she was among several writers on staff given \u201cbusy work of writing the marginally funny material\u201d as Cherry and his \u201cloyal team\u201d of two other writers helmed most of the scripts. When another writer was assigned a script, Lin alleged that Cherry once declared the staff needed to \u201cgang bang\u201d the draft without the knowledge of the original writer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith this wildly inefficient system, it\u2019s a miracle that any episodes of Desperate Housewives<\/em> ever got made. The quality that had attracted me to the pilot \u2014 the dark humor \u2014 was lost in the slapdash, assembly-line approach to what was supposed to be a creative process,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Lin was let go after ABC picked up the back nine episodes of season 1.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were putting out schlock. The fact that it became the hottest show on TV, won multiple awards, ran for eight years, and earned more revenue than God, still boggles my mind,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n
