Working on Friends<\/em><\/a> wasn\u2019t all fun and games for\u00a0TV writer Patty Lin<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 but David Schwimmer<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s on-set demeanor did ease her stress.<\/p>\n

Lin \u2014 who was part of the Friends<\/em> writing team during season 7 \u2014 recalled Schwimmer\u2019s kind gesture in her new memoir, End Credits: How I Broke Up With Hollywood<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI escaped from the dreaded huddle and stepped onto the set, joining the rowdy mob packed into the hallway,\u201d Lin penned of the time she was an extra during season 7\u2019s \u201cThe One With All the Candy,\u201d which aired in 2000. \u201cDavid Schwimmer, who was directing the episode<\/a>, came over to give instructions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lin vividly remembered Schwimmer \u2014 who played Ross Geller<\/a> \u2014 telling her, \u201cPatty, can you scooch closer to the door?\u201d She wrote, \u201cI scooched, thrilled that instead of saying, \u2018Hey, you,\u2019 Schwimmer addressed me by name.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tDavid Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston stole hearts as Ross Geller and Rachel Green, respectively, during their 10 seasons on Friends \u2014 but the duo had a bond outside of the series as well. The pair dropped a bombshell on fans during the May 2021 Friends reunion when they revealed that they both had feelings for [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Despite knowing the actors from table reads and shooting schedules, she explained that it was Schwimmer\u2019s kindness that made her finally feel seen.<\/p>\n

\u201cReally, it takes so little for a celebrity to seem like a decent person,\u201d she wrote. \u201cThat night was the high point of my Friends<\/em> experience. For once, I felt like I had something to do with the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly before Lin stepped in as an extra on the episode, she got the stamp of approval for one of her jokes. Lin told readers that the Friends<\/em> joke huddle was \u201cby far the most stressful part of the job,\u201d especially because she was a drama writer by trade.<\/p>\n

However, while taping \u201cThe One With the Candy,\u201d a Christmas episode in which Monica (Courteney Cox<\/strong><\/a>) and Chandler (Matthew Perry<\/strong><\/a>) put out holiday treats for the whole building, Lin won over Friends<\/em> cocreator Marta Kauffman<\/strong><\/a> with her one-liner.<\/p>\n

Lin described Kauffman\u2019s response as letting out a \u201cfull-throated laugh, which in that moment was the most wonderful sound [she\u2019d] ever heard.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Lin enjoyed working under Schwimmer\u2019s direction \u2014 and getting a good joke into the episode \u2014 she noted that most of the time the actors\u2019 input was not helpful<\/a>.<\/p>\n
